DESCRIPTION

Our Innovation Centres of Excellence (ICE) deliver R&D services in science and innovation, to meet both short and longer-term industry goals. Each ICE\'s research focuses on the development and implementation of technologies designed to improve the industry\'s global competitiveness in all markets.

We are looking for a Manager with a proven track record for maintaining high standards of technical and operational delivery, who can manage a comprehensive project portfolio and a team of approximately 10 scientific and technical professionals. The Manager will develop an operational culture that encompasses innovation, agility, integrity, collaboration, safety, financial accountability, efficient use of resources, and the timely completion of research projects and contracts.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Fibre Supply, the Manager will:
  • Provide guidance, coaching and staff development opportunities
  • Manage team performance, including goal setting, regular feedback, performance reviews, talent management, etc.
  • Be a courageous safety leader; adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Collaborate with Senior Directors and Sector Leaders across the organization to develop and implement research programs consistent with industry and partner priorities
  • Proactively complete project proposals, resource planning (personpower/scheduling), and all reporting requirements
  • Effectively develop and manage program cost budgets
  • Contribute to the organization\'s business development efforts as a member of the FPInnovations team of professionals
Flexible work location: either Kamloops - Prince George - Vancouver (preferred), British Columbia or Edmonton, Alberta.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in science, engineering, forestry, or a related discipline and 7-10 years of related experience in at least one key area of forest operations (eg. harvesting, engineering), or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • With a minimum of 3 years\' supervisory experience in forest operations and/or research environment with the ability to lead and mentor high performing work teams
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation considered an asset;
  • Forester (RPF) and/or Engineer (P.Eng.)
  • In-depth knowledge of Western Canada\'s forest operations and coastal conditions

  • Able to develop, motivate and inspire employees
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with internal and external collaborators
  • Good problem solving, negotiation and consensus building skills
  • Strong business and customer focus, with proven experience in developing and maintaining client relationships
  • Team player, curious and focused on improving the forest sector.
  • Resilience, adaptability to changing priorities
  • Occasional travel required, less than 20% of the year.
