About the Opportunity
  • Manage all activities relating to the Finance, accounting and reporting needs of the company in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Develop the annual company budget including supporting working papers and business case (as required) per guidelines provided by the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.
  • Manage the corporate budget by preparing monthly analysis of actuals to budget, explain variances and forecast operating expenses for the year-end to better manage financial resources. Also prepare periodic report on actuals to approved full-time employees and a forecast to year-end.
  • Manage annual audit process, responding to auditor inquiries, preparing necessary working papers, and ensuring appropriate accounting treatment under Public Sector Accounting Board Standards.
  • Annual audit process will also include the following:
  • Prepare the company\'s financial statements and year-end working papers for audit and liaise with them towards successful completion of the audit.
  • Prepare reports as required by the Province\'s Controller\'s Office and ensure submission on a timely and accurate basis.
  • Maintain a record of all the company assets and ensure it is always current.
  • Manage the payroll administration by ensuring compliance with relevant laws and tax obligations and maintaining accurate payroll records. Ensure annual year-end close process is strictly followed including the calculation of Pension Adjustments, taxable benefits, preparation of T4/T4A slips and filing with CRA within deadlines.
  • Introduce financial policies, procedures, and fiscal internal controls as necessary and ensure its Office wide compliance.
  • Responsible for mentoring Payroll and Benefits coordinator and Finance coordinator and reviewing their work such as per pay reconciliation\'s, HST rebate filings, bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, employee expense coding, and Accounts Payable processing.
  • Oversight of funding process based on approved annual budget. Including monthly funding requests, working with the teams to ensure cashflow needs are met.
  • Work closely with HR Director and produce ad-hoc reports for AG/ Director HR\'s review.
  • Advising other Office departments on appropriates procedures for significant purchases and procurements.
  • Supporting the Executive Team including the Auditor General, Assistant Auditors General, and HR Director.
  • Pro-active approach to the role and input for improvements/enhancements to the current processes.
  • Involved in special projects as required and assigned by the Executive Committee.
About You
  • CPA designation
  • 10 + years of accounting experience
  • Budgeting and cash forecasting is a requirement
  • Payroll experience is a requirement
  • Demonstrated experience in accounting and finance standards
  • Working knowledge of the Acts and Directives applicable to the company
  • Demonstrated managerial and collaborative experience
  • In-depth knowledge, expertise and hands on experience in the use of accounting software (QuickBooks), Microsoft Office. Advanced skills in the use of excel, word and power point.
Salary Range
$115,000 - $135,000/year
