Department Overview

The Wholesale Banking Finance Group is responsible for developing and delivering financial strategy, information and management support within TD Securities (TDS). A key function within the department is the oversight and governance related to execution and reporting of fair value, in support of TD Securities' business objectives. In order to ensure the accuracy of financial instruments' valuation for financial accounting purposes, the successful candidate will work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that business lines adhere to IFRS valuation policies and procedures, and controls are effective. This position also requires working on the resolution of valuation related issues pertaining to trading portfolios related to TDS.

Job Requirements

  • A post-graduate degree, accounting designation or CFA (or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of IFRS and fundamental understanding of Capital Markets financial instruments and their valuation techniques would be an asset.
  • Self-starter with a high degree of initiative and the ability to learn and adapt quickly.
  • The candidate must have excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage deadlines, multiple tasks, and high attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated relationship building skills, with the ability to make things happen through the use of positive influence. Strong collaborator who engages colleagues, business partners and external stakeholders.

  • Highly visible role that requires regular interaction with senior executives within TD Securities, Finance and Risk.
  • Contribute to the Strategic direction of the Finance function by executing the governance of Valuation and Independent Price Verification (IPV) policies for TD Securities. Partner with Market Risk Control (MRC), Capital Markets Risk Management (CMRM), Product Control, Front Office and Chief Accountants on Valuation and IPV related issues.
  • Research key accounting and valuation issues and provide recommendations in consultation with relevant functional / business heads, other internal / external groups as necessary and provide meaningful information in response to any issues / questions raised.
  • Manage reporting to the TDS Valuation Committee monthly and Asset, Liability and Capital Committee (ALCO) quarterly, including analysis of IPV and valuation adjustments, attestations, action items, sub-committees, policies, processes and mandate updates and changes.
  • Responsible for maintaining the fair value hierarchy product and input lists, coordinating semi-annual validation and reporting of results to the Fair Value Hierarchy Disclosure Committee.
  • Participate in internal / external committees as appropriate to provide recommendations, including advice to business / finance / risk and other support partners and/or represent business partners.
  • Execute and enhance internal controls at a level commensurate with risk and assess adequacy of results based on underlying risk in the business.
  • Assist in the development of TDS Accounting guidance and procedures.
  • Provide input related to new businesses and develop accounting guidance for complex instruments as required. Work closely with Chief Accountants, Finance Operations, and various business areas to ensure appropriate accounting policy alternatives are assessed, approved and implemented.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with key business / finance partners and other stakeholders and effectively communicate relevant / meaningful recommendations on a range of finance management issues.

  • Contribute to and manage numerous ad-hoc projects and initiatives with impact across finance, CMRM, Product Control, MRC, operations, technology, and the business.
