Purpose of Role:
Hudbay is seeking qualified candidates to apply for a new Manager, External Communications role to be based in our downtown Toronto Corporate office (located at 25 York Street) as a member of the Investor Relations and External Communications group. The purpose of this role is to execute our external communications program by developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies to further enhance the company's brand reputation and engagement with key stakeholders.
Key aspects of the role include developing effective messaging to share the company's story and reach our target audiences, leading our media relations program, developing strategies to further enhance our company brand reputation, coordinate communication efforts across the business, managing our social media program and external websites, supporting investor relations activities and providing back-up support in the absence of other team members.
Role Accountabilities:
Develop effective messaging aligned with corporate strategy and business objectives
- develop messaging that resonates with external stakeholders and effectively communicates the company's strategy and business objectives. Work closely with the senior management team as a communication expert on strategic initiatives and create content for executive messaging, including talking points, press releases, thought leadership and other communication items.
Lead media relations program
- identify media engagement opportunities to amplify the company's storytelling, including interview and advertising opportunities. Prepare company responses to media requests, draft briefing documents for senior management in advance of interviews and develop creative content for advertisements. Develop and manage strong relationships with media contacts.
Manage social media and external websites
- manage the company's social media accounts to ensure accurate and regular posting. Manage and maintain the company websites with regular updates and new content creation, including the corporate website and site-specific micro-websites.
Maintain strong corporate brand reputation
- identify opportunities to further enhance the company's positive brand reputation through consistent and authentic communications that demonstrate our company's purpose, values and mission.
Coordinate global communications
- collaborate closely with leaders of each business unit to ensure consistent external messaging, alignment with the company's disclosure policy and support local initiatives as requested. Develop leadership materials, such as business letters and townhall content, and provide support on employee communications.
Daily media monitoring
- monitor real-time company media coverage, social media trends and industry news, and disseminate a daily summary of relevant media articles to senior management.
Support investor relations activities
- assist in the developing of content for investor materials, such as press releases, presentations and annual reports.
Collaborate with key partners
- manage external suppliers, such as website providers, digital teams and communication consultants, to support the execution of external communications initiatives.
Other tasks
- monitor the general inbox and respond to media and retail investor inquiries, in addition to other duties as assigned.
Skilled Knowledge:
Experience needed to perform job accountabilities well: Minimum 5 years of experience in communications
A university degree or post-graduate diploma in communications or related field
Exceptional writing and storytelling skills; experience in creating engaging narratives
Strong understanding of the North American media landscape
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Other experience considered an asset: Knowledge of mining industry or natural resources sector
Experience working for a publicly traded company
Experience working with design software
Experience working with website maintenance software (e.g., Wordpress)
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish
