Position Summary:

Manager, Event Production (APEV) leads a team of technical services staff at multiple Artscape venues and optimizes the delivery of professional technical services. To learn more about our venues, please visit .

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Event Logistics

  • Act as a positive and professional representative for Artscape, modeling the Artscape values of Creativity, Integrity, Community, Collaboration and Learning.
  • Manage daily technical operations and equipment inventory across the APEV portfolio.
  • Manage, recruit, train and coach a technical team of unionized and non-union employees. Ensure compliance with collective agreements where technical staff are members of a professional union (IATSE).
  • Monitor and approve payroll submissions for part-time technical staff to ensure compliance with Employment Standards Act and Collective Agreements.
  • Achieve budgetary targets through efficient and cost-effective management of technical staffing and equipment.
  • Approves budget expenses, payments and invoices as per Artscape\xe2\x80\x99s finance and procurement policies and provides recommendations to the Director, Sales & Event Operations, for the overall Artscape events portfolio budget.
  • Provide expertise and oversight of special orders for major Artscape events seeking out efficient methods for optimal use of resources.
  • Receive escalated customer service issues from first-level management regarding on-site and post-event issues; mediate heightened conflict situations and provides solutions.
  • Under the guidance of the Director, Event Sales & Operations, works closely with APEV sales and event logistics staff to develop, implement and oversee processes, procedures and policies in relation to technical services in APEV.
  • Upholds regulatory and legislative requirements, including Health and Safety, Employment Standards Act, AODA and that staff, clients and users adhere to the Artscape Respect in the Workplace and Human Resources policies to ensure Artscape Event Venues are compliant.
  • Fulfils the Artscape mandate of community access to event spaces in the Artscape portfolio by building strong and positive relationships in the communities that Artscape serves.
  • Contributes to continuous improvement by sharing knowledge in the online staff portal and knowledge base (Wiki) and provides suggestions for improvements to such tools and resources.
  • Assists Director, Event Sales & Operations with the planning, development and implementation of equipment management strategies for the portfolio.
  • Assists Director, Event Sales & Operations with the development of capital replacement strategies and implementation of technical systems within the APEV portfolio as required.
  • Acts as backup to APEV event operations team for vacation and time off.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • University degree in events, project management or related technical program.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in managing technical and/or front of house operations in a live event venue with multiple event and client types.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a unionized environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of scheduling practices and requirements of arts-sector collective agreements (including experience in I.A.T.S.E certified venues and with the Canadian Theatre Agreement, etc.).
  • Minimum 1-year experience in budget and project management.
  • Past experience working with a diversity of customers and partners ranging from grassroots arts organizations to professional event producers.
  • Aerial Lift Certification and Working at Heights Certification is required and First Aid is an asset.
  • Medium level proficiency in Microsoft applications and Microsoft Office 365 (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams).
  • Advanced skill level with AutoCAD and software supporting lighting and sound systems, digital screens etc. Experience with Salesforce is considered an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of production practices for theatre, music, dance, and other entertainment or corporate events. This should include stage, set, sound and lighting design and implementation; stage management techniques; appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
  • Demonstration of excellent customer services skills (professional, respectful, resourceful and timely written and verbal communications with clients, colleagues and other stakeholders) and sound judgment in decision making.
  • This role may require flexible hours on multiple sites to accommodate the event and/or client requirements.
