Manager, Enterprise Operational Risk (18 Month Contract/secondment)

Job Description


Reporting directly to the Director, Enterprise Operational Risk Management, the Manager will assist in the implementation and ongoing enhancement of OMERS risk management function.

Responsibilities:

Working closely with the Director, this position will assist in the development, coordination and facilitation of risk deliverables through the Chief Risk Officer and applicable risk management committees. Responsibilities include:

1. Risk Identification, Assessment, Measurement and Monitoring:

a. Assist in the ongoing identification, assessment, measurement and monitoring of key and emerging operational risks, including those surfaced through the incident escalation process;

b. Develop and manage the incident escalation process, including root cause analysis and partnering with the business to identify opportunities;

c. Identify opportunities to continually enhance and develop existing operational risk management methodology, policies, processes and tools;

d. Facilitate project and change risk assessments on key strategic initiatives and projects and provide risk oversight on significant projects;

e. Coordinate and assist in the development of Key Risk Indicators, including data gathering capabilities and analysis;

f. Challenge operational risk management activities with the various business entities and corporate functions;

g. Develop annual plans to support the team and Vice President in executing the strategy, and manage plans to ensure completion;

h. Develop an approach to, and manage open items or areas for further consideration to ensure these items are followed up on consistently.

2. Reporting:

a. Develop reporting timelines and requirements, and actively participate in the quarterly enterprise-wide risk reporting process;

b. Assist in gathering data and information to support enterprise-wise risk reporting, and coordinate meetings with key stakeholders;

c. Assist in the preparation of Senior Executive Team, Risk Committee, and Board reporting.

3. Partnership & Relationship Management

a. Develop and maintain strong working relationships internally as well as with external advisors, subject-matter experts, pension peers, and other external stakeholders;

b. Facilitate ongoing communication and information sharing among OMERS compliance, internal audit and other risk management functions;

c. Develop a communications and engagement approach and plan, to promote risk awareness and risk conscious culture across the organization.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 7 years relevant work and management experience in an operations, or audit/risk-related function within the financial services or consulting industries.

CPA designation or MBA (or equivalent) is desirable

Project planning and management experience is beneficial, with the ability to schedule and organize key deliverables across the broader team.

Experience managing data, and possessing strong analytical skills to help drive data driven insights for stakeholders

Ability to prepare reporting and PowerPoint presentations for Management and the Board, and communicate complex information in a clear, concise and structured manner

Ability to develop trusted collaborative working relationships across multiple stakeholders

Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work concurrently on multiple assignments

Demonstrated written and oral communication skills

Computer skills: Expert-level knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
