Your Opportunity:

The Unit Manager of Intensive Care and Emergency performs a leadership role in Intensive Care and Emergency and reports directly to the Director of Patient Care. This position is responsible and accountable for providing the direction, leadership and organization over the activities of the patient care service in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. In addition, this position is responsible for making key decisions and direct leadership responsibility for establishing and contributing to the achievements of the patient care service goals specific to Intensive Care and Emergency. The Unit Manager of Intensive Care and Emergency is also responsible for: Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders Facilitating change management, promoting team development, teamwork and coordinating staffing and clinical work as identified by the Director within the services area. The development and maintenance of an effective framework for the operations of the patient care service in order to facilitate the delivery of efficient, effective and safe patient care. Maintains and imparts an expert level of understanding of clinical and functional policies, processes, procedures, systems and standards. Manages the implementation of patient care program operations; ensures that the services produce results aligned with needs of patients: implements and monitors measures to minimize risk. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of Baccalaureate Degree in a healthcare related field with appropriate licenses. A minimum of 3 years experience in a leadership role with experience in Emergency and/or Intensive Care areas. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered. Competent computer skills lease enter information in this field. Leadership skills, emphasizing organization, delegation and managing change. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality care. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Leadership and management experience of clinical care areas specifically critical care areas. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member and make decisions in a complex interdisciplinary environment. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment. Ability to foster partnerships to achieve organizational goals. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Experience in supervising and leading patient care areas. Leadership of organizational change. Proficient with financial and statistical applications.
Additional Required Qualifications:

Ensures adequate daily coverage for maintenance of required standards of care in accordance with clinical needs and collective agreement requirements. In consultation with the physician leaders, establishes and maintains practices that support effective and efficient delivery of clinical service. Ability to ensure patient care issues are addressed and provides a senior level of counsel and advice to patients, family/team members Ability to encourages and facilitate education, training and research as it relates to the service area and its fulfillment of goals and objectives of the Intensive Care and Emergency departments. Develops, recommends and implements the patient care service, processes and plans, in collaboration with the Director of Patient Care and staff in alignment with the AHS Plan. Provides leadership through effective communication, ethical decision making, and commitment to achieving established goals and objectives, ensuring outcome measurements and standards are enforced.
Preferred Qualifications:

Master of Nursing or related healthcare field. 3-5 years managerial experience in critical care areas desired. Previous managerial experience in a clinical care area preferred.
