Purpose:

The CIDA team at Scotiabank is at the forefront of the journey to transform the Bank into a data centric organization through impactful customer insights, innovative analytics, and well governed data. The aim is to provide transparent, robust, and ethical data practices across the enterprise to enhance the protection of our customers\' data, and the way we deliver business value. The role of the Manager, Data Ethics Governance & Operations will be responsible for:

  • Enabling the Bank\'s adoption of the Data Ethics Framework with a Global scope
  • Defining and implementing industry-leading data ethics practices and processes
  • Supporting, facilitating, and monitoring the organization\'s efforts to adhere to the Data Ethics Framework
  • Supporting day-to-day BAU operations of the team (reporting, metric/KPI/Audit tracking, etc,).
We are looking for someone who will make key contributions in developing, planning, and executing the adoption of processes and tools that enable ethical data use, third party data sharing frameworks, and streamlining data access rights. This role will work closely with our legal, privacy, data office, analytics, and technology teams in the bank to design, develop, and execute processes for the ethical use of data.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Conduct the review process, on a global scale, for:
  • Data Sensitivity: to classify sensitive data as part of the Bank\'s data management processes
  • Ethics Assistant: to provide ethical guidance and oversight to data use cases, including the development and use of AI/ML models
  • Consult with and advise model practitioners and analytics stakeholders on analytical techniques that drive towards fairness and more ethical outcomes for customers.
  • Ensure business stakeholder understanding, alignment and commitment to the objectives of the data ethics framework
  • Develop strong working relationships with partners across the organization, to ensure consistency and alignment on best practices
  • Document and maintain operational procedures for data ethics processes and practices.
  • Track and report on process performance and adherence, identifying areas of improvement and recommending practical and innovative solutions
  • Contribute to the remediation and closure of audit issues within stipulated deadlines
  • Participate in planning and retrospective sessions, attend stand-ups, etc. - we work in an agile environment
Functional Competencies:
  • 3+ years of experience in business/financial services
  • 3+ years of experience with data analytics, statistical methodologies, and/or machine learning techniques
  • Thorough knowledge of data governance, privacy, and risk management processes, concepts, and controls
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken - delivering clear requests for information and communicating potential conflicts
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to effectively build relationships and collaborate with partners
  • Ability to present ideas and facilitate discussions to guide towards desired outcomes
  • Able to work independently and act with good judgement, demonstrating creativity and perseverance in problem solving
  • Results orientation and pragmatic approach to decision making
  • Self-motivated, solution driven individual and adaptable to a fast-paced environment
  • Spanish language skills is a strong asset
