The Role
The Corporate Strategic Initiatives group is responsible for leading and supporting various corporate initiatives and/or other initiatives involving any of MCAP's lines of businesses. These may include acquisitions, developing new lending programs, sourcing capital, market research and analysis as well as maintaining and attracting new investor clients.
This position will be responsible for assisting the Sr. Director, Corporate Strategic Initiatives with such initiatives. This will entail the preparation of business cases and related term sheets, quantitative analysis and presentations. The individual will also be responsible for working with the appropriate business units and external parties (i.e. lawyers, accountants, dealers etc.) to liaise and pilot such initiatives. This will require the individual to exercise a high level of discretion and good judgement given that the information/initiatives are confidential and time sensitive.
The manager will also be responsible for the preparation and oversight of the analysts' work with respect to on-going market research and analysis. This will include having a deep understanding of the macroeconomic environment as well as current events and their associated impact to the real estate and mortgage markets. This will require the manager to be extremely resourceful tapping into various channels to obtain market intelligence. Our findings will form part of our market related reports and presentations which are intended for both internal and external parties/audiences.
In addition, the individual will be responsible for assisting with the on-going management of investor client accounts. This will include developing strong working relationships with key investors and resolving investor related inquires in a timely fashion to the client's satisfaction. Further, the manager is expected to provide input where appropriate with respect to investor meetings and the development/growth of these accounts.
Lastly, this individual will be responsible for assisting with any ad hoc requests, both internal and external.
Key Contributor with Respect to Corporate Strategic Initiatives
Active role in the development and implementation of corporate strategic initiatives which include:
+ Work with the business units and appropriate external parties to liaise and pilot such initiatives;
+ Preparation of business cases, related term sheets and presentations;
+ Preparation and oversight of quantitative analysis including cash flow modelling/projections;
+ Oversight and review of data mining and analysis;
+ Ability to analyze and recommend appropriate solutions or alternatives with respect to initiatives (i.e. should we do the deal?);
+ Effectively communicate with the various parties including management which may be in the form of presentations, and;
+ Ad hoc requests.
Market Research and Analysis
Oversee the preparation of market research and analysis completed by the team's analysts' and co-ops;
Continuously stay current on market events and provide updates to senior management accordingly;
Lead the preparation of our quarterly market outlook report and market related requests from senior management including coordination across several BU's to obtain the relevant product specific and regional information;
Source market intelligence from multiple channels including but not limited to internal and external industry contacts, regulatory forums, panels and events;
Tailor materials to the intended audience, and;
Ad hoc requests.
Management of Investor Client Accounts
Provide input with respect to the ongoing management and development of key client accounts;
Preparation of presentations and presentable materials as required;
Resolve investor related inquiries on a timely basis to the client's satisfaction, and;
Ad hoc requests.
What You Bring To The Team
5+ years working knowledge of mortgages
Finance/Accounting background
Experience with capital markets is an asset
Excel, Word and PowerPoint proficiency is required
Strong writing and communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills including proven ability to build and foster relationships
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Financial modelling skills, including DCF/NPV/IRR analysis
Strong attention to detail
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
Self-driven and motivated individual with the ability to work independently and in a team environment
Carries out duties with integrity and takes responsibility for actions
University Degree
CFA is an asset
