Position Overview:

The Manager, Corporate Security is responsible for the overall safety and security services for all City of Kitchener employees, Council members, and members of the public visiting City facilities. In this position, you will be responsible for providing policy advice, creating corporate strategies and plans, and recommending actions to advance organization-wide security initiatives. You will be responsible for corporate strategic initiatives and projects to improve on service delivery, address complex and emerging issues, and facilitate progress on the strategic priorities for the City.

Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises the work of corporate security supervisor and provides leadership, guidance and advice to security staff.
  • Reviews increasing security service level requirements due to growth and changing circumstances and provides short term and long-term solutions. Engages with various internal and external stake holders to understand changing and growing security needs to be able to develop long term strategic solutions.
  • Attends various high level issues management meetings with internal and external stakeholders, provides higher levels of management advice and/or follows up on actions stemming for these discussions.
  • Responsible for management of all Corporate Emergency Procedures and sub-processes as well as related communication and training (i.e. Floor Wardens, Emergency Evacuation, Emergency Response and Communication).
  • Fire and Life Safety systems management.
  • Develops agreements for temporary evacuation shelters in coordination with internal stakeholders as well as external stakeholders requesting to use City Facilities as temporary evacuation shelter.
  • Provides guidance to Project Managers on construction projects as a subject matter expert. Projects include new facility construction, renovations, expansions or rehabilitations.
  • Responsible for process improvements, Standard Operating Procedure development, data collection and reporting.
  • Provides information and advice to city staff, public, and Council regarding enforcement procedures and policy interpretation; conducts site inspections and investigates high profile, complex, and/or volatile security situations; issues Provincial Offence Notices; reviews and prepares information for related legal notices in areas of inappropriate or criminal behaviour.
  • Provides security related advise and recommendations for special events planning.
  • Hires and manages contracts with external security service providers.
  • Provides after hours support to staff and respond to emergencies as required.
Requirements:
  • 3-year degree or diploma in relevant field (ie/ Security Management, Law & Security Administration, Police Foundations).
  • 4 to 7 years of related experience.
  • Valid Security Guard licence as issued by Private Security & Investigative Services Branch, Province of Ontario.
  • Valid MTO Class G Unrestricted Driver\'s Licence.
  • Clear Police Background Check including Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • First Aid Certificate including CPR & Use of AED (can be attained post-hire).
  • Certification in Use of Force & Handcuffing (can be attained post-hire).
  • Leadership skills acquired through experience supervising staff or leading work teams.
  • Current Employees: Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
