How you will make a difference:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Community Initiatives the Manager, Community Investment (Neighbourhood Solutions Strategy) provides oversight to United Way Greater Toronto's (UWGT's) Neighbourhood Solutions Strategy granting activities (including both capital & community building), support a portfolio of agencies, partnerships, collaborations and special projects. Manage a portfolio of agencies, monitoring agency performance and reporting against their agreed upon deliverables and evidence-informed standards for the sector, and managing their relationship with UWGT
Support UWGT's tables, networks and working groups
Support facilitation of relationships and engagement of community stakeholders (residents, community leaders, agencies, sector partners and others) in UWGT's grants, policy and systems initiatives. Identify organizational, governance, financial and/or program delivery issues with agencies and assist in developing a plan for resolution, including capacity building initiatives
Lead the design, implementation and management of grant streams and funding distribution, including assessment of detailed applications and financial statements, preparation of funding recommendations and reports, and supporting grant review and agency reporting processes.
Establish partnership contracts and memoranda of understanding, oversee achievement of key project deliverables including ensuring accurate reporting, and financial accountability.
Assist in community problem-solving initiatives and collaborative efforts with agencies, community organizations and funders with respect to relevant local social issues
Stay abreast of social and community issues and external funding initiatives and priorities, and recommend appropriate roles and responses for UWGT, relevant to their portfolio
Manage and implement special projects
Represent UWGT, as appropriate, in different forums through written reports/briefs or presentations
Participate in cross-functional projects and teams under direction of Sr. Mgr and Director related to relevant annual department strategic and business priorities of UWGT
Work closely with Donor Relations & Marketing colleagues to engage donors and steward the funding relationship with their portfolio of agencies
Work with Communications and Marketing staff to tell the story, communicate impact and support key messaging about the work of UWGT
Provide stewardship for community volunteers, donors and partners who participate in supporting grant processes, agencies or projects within their portfolio
What you bring to the role:
3-5 years employment and volunteer experience in the non-profit social services sector in areas such as community boards, grants management, program management and evaluation, issues of access and equity, and budget development and reporting
Post-secondary education in a related field, or equivalent work-related experience
Experience working with diverse stakeholders such as residents, social service providers, community coalitions and networks, funders and government with demonstrated ability to effectively manage, foster and grow these relationships
Experience and understanding of access and equity issues for racialized people and those living in poverty
Experience with community and place-based initiatives including capital projects if possible
Sound knowledge of the human services sector in Toronto, Peel and/or York Region is required
Strong understanding of grant-making processes and superior writing skills
Experience working with volunteers at all levels of an organization
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Highly developed analytical skills with ability to conduct research and use independent judgment to problem-solve
Ability to influence, negotiate and manage contentious issues to resolution
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage constituent relationships
Proven organizational abilities and the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines under pressure
Proven ability to take initiative and carry projects to completion with minimum supervision
Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and constituent service skills including the ability to work respectfully and inclusively with a diverse employee population and multiple stakeholders
Strong communication and facilitation skills (both written and verbal)
Understanding of organizational and/or community capacity building an asset
Willingness to actively contribute to the organizational reconciliation and equity framework through participation in learning opportunities and implementing anti-oppressive and anti-racist learnings into action internally and externally
