Student Experience supports Student Life, and its units, to ensure that staff have the necessary tools and resources to effectively deliver programs, services, and resources. Student Life portfolios include, Student Life Programs & Services, Health & Wellness, and the Centre for International Experience. Student Experience also provides institutional support and leadership on large-scale assessment and projects that enrich the student experience. Units directly within Student Experience include, the Office of the CAO; Student Life IT; Student Life Communications; Student Crisis Response, Progress & Support; Assessment & Analysis; Innovation Hub; and Strategic Initiatives.
Your opportunity:
Reporting to the Director, Student Life Communications, the Manager, Communications Projects (MCP) is responsible for implementation of several communication strategies for Student Life involving print, web, social media as well as communications initiatives that are tri-campus. Primary responsibilities include raising awareness of Student Life departments, programs, services, opportunities, and resources for undergraduate and graduate students. This includes meeting with programs and services at the onset of their program planning to consider communication strategies and needs for the respective program/service. The MCP must effectively build relationships and partnerships within Student Life and throughout the University. The incumbent will serve as project manager and team lead within the Student Life Communications (SLC) team for various projects and production of print material, coordinating the team activities (in consultation with the Director) on specified projects, along with managing external contracts to ensure that quality promotional materials are created within a timely manner for the various units within Student Life. The MCP also serves as the lead on matters relating to developing accessible communications materials, and has a deep understanding of requirements of AODA and best practices. This position performs quality control on communications resources, ensuring that Student life and U of T brand standards are met and that all materials are AODA complaint. The MCP is also responsible for assessing communications initiatives and producing actionable recommendations.
Your responsibilities will include:
Developing a comprehensive and integrated marketing strategy
Developing and implementing marketing plans to promote programs, events and/or initiatives that support strategic objectives
Advising on marketing best practices and brand-building opportunities
Analyzing market data to determine trends and effectiveness of programs and initiatives
Advising on branding strategies and attributes to support initiatives
Overseeing the production of promotional and marketing materials
Producing promotional and outreach materials
Directing the activities of a group of staff-appointed employees all performing a similar function
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Formal training in techniques for creating universally accessible webpages, documents, and publications.
Minimum five (5) years of related experience in marketing, communications and/or graphic design in a higher education or related environment.
Demonstrated experience in creating webpages and maintaining websites, design and production of print materials (brochures, posters and other publications).
Extensive experience with Adobe graphics software: Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and other design platforms (Figma, Canva)
Good working knowledge of HTML, CSS.
Experience with event planning and delivering training seminars.
Demonstrated experience in project management and multi-tasking.
Experience in producing accessible documents.
Experience training others in accessible document techniques.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to develop and manage projects to defined timelines.
Must have an understanding of and sensitivity to student needs.
Proven track record of ability to relate effectively with multiple stakeholders, including student life staff, IT staff, student leaders and students.
Strong organizational and inter-personal skills.
Ability to work in a team environment, as well as, autonomously.
Knowledge of AODA legislation and best practices in accessible communications.
Knowledge and experience in social media usage, analysis and best practices.
Demonstrated knowledge of brand and marketing principles and ability to translate brand identity to communications initiatives
Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive storytelling across all touchpoints.
Experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research to inform and evaluate communications strategies and initiatives.
Assets (Nonessential):
Experience in Blackboard, JavaScript and Web 2.0 applications.
Knowledge of the University of Toronto.
USW Pay Band 15 - $97,348. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $124,491. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
