Role Overview Reporting to the Director, Marketing, the Manager, Communications and Community Relations delivers the Assiniboine Credit Union (\xe2\x80\x9cACU\xe2\x80\x9d) story by understanding the market, competition, and member needs and developing and executing strategic communication, public relations, social media, and community relations programs required to support ACU\xe2\x80\x99s growth, financial sustainability and social impact objectives. This role is a key resource in positioning ACU for success internally and externally by developing the communication and community relations strategies and telling the story of ACU\xe2\x80\x99s commitment to values based banking and triple bottom line accountability.
Key Accountabilities Leadership

  • Implement communication, community relations, and social media tactics in support of achieving ACU\xe2\x80\x99s strategic objectives and commitment to values based banking and triple bottom line accountability.
  • Plan, direct, and manage projects and initiatives that support ACU\xe2\x80\x99s overall marketing and communications strategy.
  • Lead public relations initiatives and manage ACU\xe2\x80\x99s voice in the community when crisis issues arise.
  • Lead initiatives that require working collaboratively with multiple diverse contributors.
  • Leverage complex data sets develop and share the story of ACU\xe2\x80\x99s and Outlook\xe2\x80\x99s brand evolution
  • Develop the communications and community relations roadmap to increase public awareness and advance priorities and corporate objectives.
  • Develop and manage project budgets and applicable department/team budgets.
  • Lead, develop, evolve, and mentor a high-performing team to deliver and exceed expectations while coaching employees to realize their professional development goals.
  • Develop and enhance working relationships with team members and all levels of stakeholders in order to:
    • Exchange highly complex, confidential and/or sensitive information and resolve broad professional area and/or department-wide issues, which potentially have organization wide impact.
    • Impart expert skills and knowledge.
  • Develop and maintain industry contacts and credit union partners to collaborate and increase efficiencies.
  • Influence and negotiate both internally and with vendors/external partners.
  • Responsible for compliance and risk management, through the execution of internal policies and procedures, maintain ongoing compliance with regulatory and legislation requirements at all times.
  • Champions ACU\xe2\x80\x99s commitment to values-based banking, respectful workplace and diversity and inclusion.
  • Ensures adherence to ACU\xe2\x80\x99s purchasing policies, including local, environmentally sustainable and social enterprise purchasing.

Corporate Communications and Community Relations
  • Develop communication and community relations strategy and tactics \xe2\x80\x93 internal and external
  • Evolve and execute communications and community relations to help improve scoring on employee survey
  • Evolve and execute communications and community relations to help improve scoring on member survey
  • Develop the multi-year strategy to evolve ACU community relations and communications to strengthen messaging around our commitment to values based banking and triple bottom line accountability.
  • Oversee management and evolution of social media, community relations and public relations
  • Manage, lead, and evolve proactive public relations outputs like the annual general meeting and annual report
  • Support meaningful differentiation from our competitors by telling ACU\xe2\x80\x99s and Outlook\xe2\x80\x99s stories in the form of public relations, communications, and community relations
  • Collaborate with leaders in all divisions and departments and at all levels of ACU to share the ACU story
  • Continually review changes to the market, consumer trends, and the activities of competitors, adjusting the communications and public relations plans as necessary
  • Stay close to issues near and dear to ACU and be ready to share ACU\xe2\x80\x99s position
  • Develop crisis communication strategies and plans for highly likely crisis situations
  • Coordinate ACU messaging with executive sponsors in time of crisis
  • Oversee management of company intranet and internal communications, developing the internal communications strategy with executive to ensure the values message is kept top of mind throughout the year
  • Work closely with other marketing departments to convert the complexity of analytics and segmentation into understandable value propositions to adjust our messaging to support strategies and positioning
  • Provide communications support to other areas of marketing and channels
  • Working with analytics, defining key communication success metrics, measures, and reporting.
  • Work with Marketing Programs and Brand to support the planning, development, and support of content marketing tactics for all stages of the member journey.
  • Interpret complex analytic and reporting information and translate it into messaging for members.
  • Support the channels by providing communications tools for team members to tell our story.
  • Lead continuous improvement for communication programs, community relations, and public relations delivery based on effectiveness measures and member experience requirements.
  • Work in collaboration with the marketing team in the development and implementation of advertising plans and campaigns, non-campaign advertising, communications, channel support, public relations, and support the development of success criteria and metrics and results for all marketing activities.

Education and Experience This position requires a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in business, communications, or marketing, plus at least seven years of job related experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Project management and data analytics interpretation experience would be considered an asset.
Qualifications The position requires an expert understanding of the following:

  • Creating innovative solutions for differing points of view and being able to clearly share the messaging in talk points and positioning for executive
