Manager, Clean Technology

We are seeking a Manager, Clean Technology, who will be responsible for managing and implementing projects and initiatives related to Clean Technology, with a specific focus on energy storage and minerals. The Manager will also provide subject matter leadership and advice, build internal and external relationships, and ensure activities are compliant with corporate policies, technical standards, and applicable regulatory/legislative requirements while working closely with other strategic areas within Alberta Innovates, Clean Resources, and Clean Technology.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Manage programs and projects for the Clean Technology team with a focus on energy storage and minerals alongside industry and other stakeholders to advance technology development.
  • Undertake technology scanning and market intelligence activities to deliver the identification of trends, issues, and challenges within the energy storage and minerals focus area.
  • Identify high impact initiatives and projects based on gap analysis and identified needs.
  • Foster a collaborative culture between governments, ministries, universities, research organizations, industry, stakeholders, and other technical staff in the planning, development and delivery of all other research and technology investments.
  • Advise, recommend, and report on the progress and results of programs, projects, and initiatives.
Qualifications and skills we are looking for:
  • Undergraduate Degree or above in Science or Engineering or in a related field; extended work experience may be substituted for educational credentials, if appropriate.
  • Minimum 5 years of managing research or technical programs and projects including engineering and scientific analysis delivery.
  • Experience working in/with government and industry in electricity, mined natural resources, clean technology, or environmental management. Utility sector experience highly desired.
  • Familiar with Alberta\'s social, economic, environmental, and technological needs and priorities.
  • Ability to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships, experience working with senior technical and management professionals from industry, environmental NGOs, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to comprehend technical issues; independently expands technical knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to work within a group environment and effectively participate in the discussion of tasks and outcomes.
  • Ability to demonstrate financial management and business case development skills.
  • Creative thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills.
  • Strong research and project management skills.
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral), and the ability to build networks among stakeholders.
  • Facilitation and presentation skills.
