As a Manager in the Canadian Core Tax group, you will manage diverse tax engagements, supervise and develop junior team members, and provide trusted advice to Canadian-controlled private corporations and family enterprises. You will play a key role in overseeing tax planning and compliance mandates, ensuring high-quality deliverables, and supporting the continued growth of the practice.
Key Responsabilities
Client engagement and advisory
Manage tax planning and compliance engagements for Canadian-Controlled Private Corporations (CCPCs), partnerships, trusts, and high-net-worth individuals.
Advise clients on reorganizations, succession planning, and tax-efficient structures.
Support partners and senior managers in developing client strategies and identifying planning opportunities.
Technical expertise
Apply and interpret Canadian federal and provincial income tax legislation.
Prepare and review tax memos, working papers, and supporting documentation related to reorganizations, transactions, and CRA audits.
Review tax returns and elections, including T1, T2, T3, T5013, T1134, and T1135 filings, and related elections (T2054, T2057, T2058, T2059, T2184, T2027).
Conduct comprehensive tax reviews of client structures and identify opportunities for optimization.
Support the preparation of safe income, exempt surplus, and LCGE calculations.
Collaborate with internal teams on cross-border matters in coordination with the U.S. Tax group.
Leadership and team development
Supervise, coach, and review the work of Senior Associates and Associates.
Provide on-the-job training and contribute to team performance evaluations.
Collaborate closely with peers and senior leadership to ensure consistency in engagement delivery.
Practice Development
Embrace innovation and technology to enhance engagement efficiency.
Contribute to process improvement and knowledge-sharing initiatives within the group.
Participate in business development opportunities and client relationship-building activities.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in Canadian tax, ideally with a focus on private enterprises.
Strong experience in preparing and reviewing tax calculations and returns.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Taxprep, and tax research tools (e.g., Taxnet Pro).
CPA designation required or in progress; LL.B. and/or MTax are considered assets.
Proven ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong technical knowledge of Canadian tax legislation and planning principles.
Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills.
