The Manager, Business Analytics contributes to the overall success of the Business Control Retail Product Controls & Regulatory Support team ensuring specific individual goals and plans; initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team\'s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

The Manager, Business Analytics will be responsible for supporting the Business Control team which includes the Issue Management program, Control Self-Assessment (CSA) and Process Mapping team. Primary accountability includes designing, maintaining and generating user tools and reports. Secondary accountabilities include working directly with the Business Control team for data extraction of moderate to significant complexity of impacted accounts based on approved inclusion/exclusions using various data analytics methodologies to query impacted accounts across all issues.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
  • Provide database and user tools support:
o Accountable to design and maintain the Issue Management user tools and reports which are leveraged to track and report on all issues impacting Canadian Banking

o Responsible for the design and development of current and new Databases to support Issue Management expansion
o Accountable to design and maintain the Control Self-Assessment user tools and reports which are leveraged to gather, track and report on the Control Self-Assessment teams testing progress and results
o Accountable to design and maintain the Process Mapping team user tools and reports
o Responsible to produce meaningful reporting for each line of business to summarize key data elements and provide a holistic overview of issue inventory. This includes weekly, monthly and quarterly executive updates which can also be broken down by line of business.
o Define evergreen schedule for review and releases of reporting / tools updates
o Responsible to ensure proper documentation is in place for user tools and reporting
  • Provide data extraction support:
o Responsible for implementation of various health checks to support regulatory adherence. Assess what additional health checks can be built to proactively identify issues
o Responsible for data extraction of moderate to significant complexity of impacted accounts based on approved inclusion/exclusions using various data analytics methodologies to query impacted accounts across all issues
o Database and reporting support for ORE financial impact assessment as well as provide management with trending and analysis of financial impact
o This could include assessing financial impact of the remediation plans and reporting via Operational Risk Event (ORE) process as required
  • Understand how the Bank\'s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank\'s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We\'d love to work with you if you have:
  • A recognized undergraduate quantitative degree (finance, business, engineering, computer science) or comparable business analysis experience is essential
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • In depth knowledge of business related computer software specifically Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Word (data import/export, automating tasks)
  • Expertise to utilize sound judgment in the interpretation of data and instructions
  • Solid understanding of relational database concepts and experience with database systems (MS Access/SQL Server) (must). Understanding of data warehouse methodology
  • SQL and VBA/VBS experience (required)
  • Experience with Excel power query/power pivot, Power bi, Tableau
  • SAS, Python, Spark experience working with dataframes
