Position Summary

This is a Management role that is a combination of both a Catering Management and Banquet Management. Under the direction of the Food and Beverage Manager, this position is responsible for booking and executing events with a strong focus on guest service, generating sales, and leading the Banquet team. Must be collaborative, excel at multi-tasking and display exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Contributes to a safe and welcoming work environment for all employees. Motivates, leads by example and provides a learning environment. Ensures adherence to all policies and procedures. Above all else, must embrace and be aligned with Casino Nova Scotia\'s culture and philosophy of providing outstanding entertainment experiences.

Key Accountabilities

Catering/Sales focus:

  • Books events, meets sales targets, and works closely with clients to ensure all needs are exceeded;
  • Event space is two events rooms. One of which is 6000 square feet and the other is 2800 square feet.
  • Events include - Corporate meetings, lunches, dinners, and receptions along with weddings and holiday parties.
  • Client contracts, event orders, floor plans, invoices
  • Connects with guests regularly to gain feedback and book future/repeat business;
  • Promotes the casino as a venue of choice for Banquet events;
  • Works closely with the Food and Beverage Manager to achieve budget revenue and sales goals;
  • Develops, fosters and maintains excellent relationships with both internal and external guests;
  • Offers food and beverage expertise to both internal and external customers;
  • Works closely with the Chef and kitchen staff
  • Works closely with Marketing/ Entertainment Manager who books the entertainment
  • This role oversees the event, works the shows, and provides performers with food and beverage
  • Works closely with Casino tech to provide client audio visual needs
Banquets - Event/Execution focus:
  • Provides leadership, direction and mentoring to the Banquets operation;
  • Is expected to work catering events along with entertainment events
  • Promotes and fosters positive labour and employee relations;
  • Develops performance objectives and delivers performance evaluations for direct reports;
  • Oversees and ensures appropriate coverage while minimizing operating costs. Does the staff schedule
  • Implements and provides input to F&B strategic plans as directed;
  • Collaborates closely with Culinary to develop event menus to exceed guest expectations;
  • Resolves client issues as required;
  • Orders supplies and equipment as needed; Ensures invoices are coded and sent to the finance department in a timely manner
  • Is involved in monthly liquor inventory procedures
  • Acts as a signing authority and reviews Banquet payroll submissions for accuracy;
  • Develops and cultivates strong working relationships with all stakeholders: guests, ownership, employees, vendors and regulators;
  • Tracks key performance measures including guest satisfaction
  • Ensure all staff are up to date on internal courses

  • Ensures compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations; and

Education and Qualifications:
  • Embraces the Casino Nova Scotia culture and philosophy and has a playful, infectious and \xe2\x80\x9call about the guest" attitude!
  • Post-secondary education in Hospitality, or suitable combination of education and experience required
  • Minimum 5 years hospitality, sales/catering and/or events experience required
  • Experience managing staff required - staff of 20 or more preferred
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office (especially Excel);
  • Knowledge of Micros and Opera / Fidelio / Reserve / Tripleseat systems an asset;
  • Ability to effectively manage sales opportunities, with previous experience in sales an asset;
  • Ability to effectively network and build strong relationships at all levels;
  • Strong administrative, organizational and analytical skills required;
  • Consummate professional and expert communicator
Work Environment Considerations
  • Regular office, restaurant and casino environment, standing or walking for long periods of time, non-traditional work hours
