Overview

Do you have knowledge and experience with credentialing programs or extensive experience with asbestos health and safety? Are you a project-driven leader who is adept at building relationships, coaching and mentoring a team, change management, and passionate about worker safety?

As the Manager of Asbestos Licensing in our Prevention Divisional Services and Credentialing department, you would be responsible for establishing a service centre plan for asbestos licensing and facilitating the development and implementation of the plan in accordance with regulatory and legislative requirements. This is an impactful opportunity to drive improvements in workplace health and safety throughout B.C. by facilitating external stakeholder awareness, participation and program ownership and helping others to consistently interpret and apply regulatory and legislative requirements.

This is a hybrid role that will primarily work from home and occasionally attend our Richmond office.

What you'll do

As the Manager of Asbestos Licensing you will:

  • Promote, participate in and manage the design, development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of licensing programs and standards
  • Develop and implement departmental business plans to support and achieve strategic objectives, monitoring and adjusting activities to respond to changing conditions
  • Ensure that both internal and external stakeholders are updated on subjects pertaining to asbestos licensing requirements within the Workers Compensation Act and Occupational Health & Safety Regulation
  • Coordinate the activities of other departments that are related to the implementation of the asbestos licensing programs
  • Ensure that cooperative working relationships and clear, ongoing communications are established and maintained among the Prevention Services division, industry occupational health and safety agencies, and other internal and external stakeholders with regard to the asbestos licensing program
  • In consultation and/or cooperation with internal and external stakeholders, develops, presents, and/or coordinates comprehensive project/program proposals and manages
  • Manage and direct assigned staff in maintaining high levels of service and achieving priorities and objectives
  • Manage, plan, develop and administer the annual operating budget for the assigned area
  • Researches information and prepared detailed written reports and documentation for administrative and operational purposes

We're looking for someone who can:
  • Provide leadership and create a supportive working environment, set performance goals, provide coaching, and support staff development
  • Maintain positive, client focused relationships with internal and external clients such as approved training providers, and Prevention Services Staff
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, at a level appropriate for the intended audience
  • Maintain current knowledge in the fields of asbestos abatement, occupational health & safety, relevant law & policy, and credentialing, auditing, and licensing
Your experience and educational background:
  • A degree in business administration, law and policy, occupational hygiene, occupational health & safety or a related field
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive professional experience in occupational health and safety or law and policy, including at least 3 years' experience in a management role that demonstrates a broad knowledge of industry, employer, and labour issues
  • Experience working with a large complex unionized environment is an asset
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
