ABOUT US:

Onion Lake Family Services is an organization that strengthens family units by offering support and resources to parents and caregivers, aiming for healthy homes. Our short-term, strength based services focus on empowering families for long term improvement and skill building.

Roles and Responsiblities


The Male Youth Worker will create and build healthy relationships with our children in care, children at risk of being in care and high-risk youth in the community ages 13-18. The worker will create a positive network of support for these children and youth.

Help refer children to the appropriate services when required.

Promoting land-based activities for the youth promoting healthy relationships with their environment.

Work closely with youth mental health supports in and outside the community.

Develop, initiate and implement, and participate in activities that help build self-confidence and self-esteem with male youth.

Help drive a healthy relationship with the children and the community as well as the Agency.

Engage, develop and implement male youth to identify issues, needs, goals, skills, abilities and services needed.

Work closely with the family services team and caregivers to support goals identified by the youth

Engage parents and youth where possible through existing parenting groups, family groups, and any other programs in the community.

Develops collaborative relationships with youth, families and informal/formal support systems to strengthen children and youth circles.

Work in collaboration with Education, Wellness, and other departments to maintain the existing level of youth programs and service in the community while striving to implement further initiative.

Engages with male youth in acceptable recreational and social activities in the community that will build on their strengths, develop their interpersonal skills and supports their involvement in their beliefs to strengthen their sense of identity.

Ability to recognize potential crisis, analyze these situations accurately and implement coping strategies.

Maintain service statistics and recording of all services.

Participate in team meetings on regular basis.

Transportation of clients.

Adhere to all OLFS policies and procedures.

Other duties that are complimentary to the role of Male Youth Worker.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS


Youth Care Worker certificate or diploma, social work certificate or diploma. Equivalences will be considered

Related work experience will be considered

Valid class 5 driver's license with acceptable abstract

Clear criminal record with vulnerable sector

COMPETENCIES



Knowledge and experience in Cree culture, protocols and ceremonies is an asset Understanding of the historical significance of residential schools and how it relates to OLCN Work under pressure and stress situations Strong principles and ethics Work under pressure and stressful situations Attention to detail Excellent organizational and time management skills Physical ability to lift up-to 20lbs
