The Maintenance Worker II of Villa Marguerite works under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and is required to travel to Sprucewood Place as needed. As a valued interdisciplinary Staff member, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for ensuring that all physical plant and building operations are in proper working order and meet mandated codes and manufacturer recommendations, PPSL standards and policies specifically in relation to waste management, infection prevention and control, risk management and WHMIS. They will utilize a preventative maintenance approach to prevent accidents and/or operation breakdown. Treats residents with dignity and demonstrates an attitude of caring. This is an AUPE unionized position. This position is part-time and will not lead into a full-time position. Qualifications:
  • Experience in building and outdoor maintenance including: basic plumbing, framing, dry walling & painting
  • Experience operating equipment, maintenance and repair such as snow blower, lawn mower, electric & hand tools
  • Valid driver\xe2\x80\x99 license. (Drivers Abstract required)
  • Must be physically fit and in general good health with the ability to push, pull and lift up to 50lbs and be able to be on your feet for long periods of time
  • Effective written and oral communication skills in the English language
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces
  • Clear criminal record security clearance with Vulnerable Sector included (no more than 6 months old)
  • Must be able to work independently, and as part of the interdisciplinary team
  • Successful candidate must have full COVID-19 Vaccination
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Follows the Preventative Maintenance Program, ensuring that regular checks are completed and documentation is accurate.
  • Adheres to relevant provincial and/or manufacturers\xe2\x80\x99 equipment and plant systems\xe2\x80\x99 codes, standards and/or expectations.
  • Daily rounds of the Facility, completing preventative maintenance schedule and searching and monitoring for any plant concerns and/or potential issues.
  • In winter \xe2\x80\x93 ensures sidewalks, patios, and all exit areas are clear and free of ice and snow.
  • Prioritizes items needing attention and fixing.
  • Repairs equipment/plant as able and necessary; in consultation with the Maintenance worker and/or Site Leader, refers to appropriate outside contractors as required for equipment and plant maintenance and/or repair and assists as necessary.
  • Puts away supplies as delivered.
  • Communicates ongoing with interdisciplinary team members and performs all building maintenance duties as required.
  • Understands and adheres to health and safety responsibilities as per PPSL policies.
  • Assists residents with moving of furniture when required.
  • Checks safety of resident equipment upon move-in (eg. CSA approved electrical equipment such as radios, shavers)
  • Ensures all rooms are inspected and free of mechanical hazards, prior to a resident moving in.
  • Apprises the Maintenance worker and/or Site Leader of any major plant or building concerns and recommends capital equipment purchases as applicable.
  • Is prepared to come in on an emergency-call basis.
  • The Maintenance Worker will be expected to work on call according to a one week rotation.
  • Attends in-service education as applicable.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
