Ts-i-ts-uwatul Lelum is an Assisted Living facility, where we provide recreation, meals, and a variety of services and supports to the Indigenous Elders, seniors, and people with disabilities residing in the facility.Position SummaryUnder the supervision of the Assisted Living Manager, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for the overall maintenance of the Ts\xe2\x80\x99i\xe2\x80\x99ts\xe2\x80\x99uwatul Lelum Assisted Living building and grounds. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out preventive and routine maintenance duties according to schedules, and may be on-call for maintenance needs that occur outside hours of work. Due to the residents living in this facility, the successful candidate must be vaccinated against Covid-19.This is a fulltime, temporary position for a one (1) year term with the possibility of extension. The schedule is 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, based out of the Assisted Living facility at 5755 Allenby Rd in Duncan. This position pays $27.10 per hour.Responsibilities

  • Carry out all move in and move out tasks to prepare suites for the next resident; fix drywall, paint, clean light fixtures and baseboards;
  • Complete work orders in a timely fashion that may include basic plumbing, electrical and carpentry, painting, drywall repairs, and appliance repair;
  • Maintain and sanitize the garbage, recycling and compost room;
  • Mop and buff hard wood floors in the dining room;
  • Maintain the grounds and landscaping;
  • Maintain an awareness of resident\xe2\x80\x99s allergies and/or health conditions with respect to doing any repairs in their units and/or in common areas;
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all documentation assigned or required in the course of duties including documenting in the communication log and completing incident reports;
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Proven ability to operate maintenance tools and equipment and conduct maintenance tasks with limited direction
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and effective manner
  • Ability to deal effectively, tactfully and patiently with Elders, seniors and people living with disabilities
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and knowledge on how to respond effectively and calmly in crisis situations
  • Ability to work independently, yet contribute and co-operate in a team environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs regularly and 100lbs occasionally
  • Proven ability to be reliable and punctual
  • Capable of being socially sensitive to Indigenous issues and concerns
  • Ability to take direction and follow procedures
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years maintenance experience
  • Completion of a maintenance training program is preferred but not required
  • Experience working with Elders, seniors and persons with disabilities in congregate/assisted living setting is an asset
  • Experience working in and with Indigenous communities is an asset
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License and a clean Driver\xe2\x80\x99s Abstract
  • First Aid \xe2\x80\x93 Level 1 (paid for by M\xe2\x80\x99akola)
  • WHMIS certificate (paid for by M\xe2\x80\x99akola)
  • Food Safe \xe2\x80\x93 Level 1 (paid for by M\xe2\x80\x99akola)
  • Clear Criminal Record Check required upon selection
  • Vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus
