About Our Opportunity



The Maintenance Worker will be supported by the Site Supervisor, Prescott House Museum. This position would fit well with someone who would enjoy working outdoors and in historic buildings. You will be maintaining the museum buildings, garden, and grounds. Engaging with visitors and assisting your co-workers with events, programs and exhibits will also be part of your role.

Primary Accountabilities



The Maintenance Worker operates a wide range of equipment and machinery which requires specific training that the museums provide. Mandatory training includes but is not limited to standard First Aid, Occupational Health and Safety courses, Fall Arrest and WHMIS.

Qualifications and Experience



  • Grade 10 and minimum of two years related experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in general carpentry, painting, building, gardens and grounds maintenance, minor electrical repairs and related equipment are required.
  • Must be interested in learning about heritage gardens and plants
  • Must be self-directed, able to take initiative and work independently but also demonstrate teamwork and respect for the diversity of others.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Experience working with the public in a historic site or park environment is considered an asset.
  • Computer proficiency including the Internet, emailing, web-based applications, word processing, using forms and templates is required.
  • Must comply with site policies, procedures and safe work practices including the use of assigned personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Must have a valid Nova Scotia driver\xe2\x80\x99s licence.

This is a seasonal employment opportunity for the period between April and October. Successful candidates must have the ability to work flexible hours including some weekends, evenings and holidays. Pay Grade: MOS 07 Salary Range: $1,589.42 - $1,629.48 Bi-Weekly
