Sinai Health is looking for a Maintenance Technician to support our Building Services Department, Operations, at our Mount Sinai Hospital Campus.
As a member of the Building Services team, the Maintenance Technician will be part of a strong team of professionals who work around the clock to maintain, repair, monitor and operate all building systems mechanical/electrical equipment in accordance with governing standards, codes and regulations.
A Maintenance Technician is responsible for keeping a facility operating. Repairing any problems when they are discovered before they have a chance to worsen. The Maintenance Technician is required to perform a wide range of repair tasks around a facility. In compliance with ALL governing Acts and Regulations, the principle responsibilities of the Maintenance Technician include:
Adjusts thermostats, valves, dampers, etc. to maintain desired conditions
Maintains the supply of steam and chilled water for HVAC, sterilization, domestic hot water
Maintains all steam distribution, chilled water, HVAC, medical gases, Pneumatic Tube and any other equipment throughout the campus
Perform maintenance of mechanical equipment as outlined on the Preventative Maintenance Program
Adjust, monitor and record BAS set points, as requested
Troubleshoot all mechanical equipment throughout the facility
Perform engineering rounds
Change filters, belts, clean, drain, flush and fill coils, in air handling units
Maintain all auxiliary equipment in accordance with governing standards, codes and regulations
Ensure proper and efficient operation of all building systems
Supervise and mentor subordinate employees, contractors and service personnel
Respond quickly and efficiently to all tenant and property management requests
Keep all mechanical rooms in clean and tidy condition
Be familiar with responsibilities in Fire Procedure manual, WHMIS requirements, Health and Safety Act, Emergency Preparedness Manual etc.
Maintains heating, ventilation, cooling and air conditioning systems
Other duties as assigned

Properly and regularly uses all safety equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE), etc.
Operates equipment safely in accordance with training protocols and position requirements
Follows safety procedures when cleaning/handling equipment, supplies and products
Reports all accidents, unsafe conditions, security incidents to management
Attendance:
Follows Hospital's Attendance Policy, Department Scheduling and call-in procedures
Appearance:
Follows the Department's uniform policy
Ensures Identification Security Badges are up-to-date, working and visible at all times
Teamwork:
Works collaboratively with other team members to provide the highest quality patient care and service
Carries out all duties as assigned during the shift
All employees are to act in a manner consistent with all Hospital policies and procedures that may be amended from time to time.
Job Requirements
Mandatory
Successful completion of a high school diploma
Completion of one of the following certificates or equivalent education recognized by BOMI Education Canada
o Building Systems Maintenance Certificate (SMC)
o Facilities Management Certificate (FMC)
o Building Energy Certificate (BEC)
1-3 years in a maintenance role environment, demonstrated experience as a maintenance technician
Proven equivalent and recent related education, training and experience will be considered
Preferred
Hospital operations experience
Professional license in a relevant trade (HVAC Mechanic, Millwright, etc. licensed in the Province of Ontario)
Completion of 3rd or 4th class operating engineers certificate from the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA)"
Skills and Knowledge
Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical and HVAC schematic drawings
Strong mechanical, electrical and plumbing background
Demonstrated computer skills an asset
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
Must be proficient in English, both oral and written
Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
Demonstrated current knowledge and competency in regulatory compliance.
Responsible, self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision
