The Fleet Services Division of the Department of Public Works supports the backbone of our provincial highway infrastructure. We are located at Miller Lake, the central Fleet Services hub of the province. At Miller Lake, we are pivotal in ensuring the equipment used to maintain, repair, and build Nova Scotia\'s 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways, and 4,100 bridges, is always ready to go.

About Our Opportunity

As the Maintenance Planner, you assist the Manager of Fleet Services in planning and the day-to-day operations of the shop. Daily, you provide solutions and exceptional client service all the while identifying priorities and ensuring the effective delivery of services required to meet operational demands.

Primary Accountabilities

You are responsible for establishing, prioritizing and scheduling the workload of the shop including:

  • generating work orders;
  • preparing project time cost estimates and reports;
  • facilitating parts lists; and
  • maintaining the preventative maintenance schedules for the fleet.
Through regular contact with the Fleet Service Coordinators, Operations Supervisors, Mobile Service Mechanics, Stock Clerks, and Equipment Maintenance Coordinators, you ensure the efficient and effective availability of parts and materials for fleet operations.

Qualifications and Experience

High School completion plus five (5) years of related work experience in an equipment and repair environment. Experience as a truck mechanic or heavy equipment mechanic is considered an asset.

Thorough knowledge of heavy equipment, along with truck maintenance and repair trade practices is essential. You must have exceptional computer skills including proficiency in using a computerized work order system.

Experience with the following is considered an asset:
  • SAP Modules (Plant maintenance, Materials Management, and Controlling)
  • preparing job cost estimates for both labor time and parts
As the ideal candidate, you are efficient coordinating work; organizing, planning, and scheduling the daily operations of our shop\'s fast-paced environment. Your effective communication skills, both oral and written, are essential for collaborating with Department and Supplier representatives. You use sound judgement and problem-solving skills when determining and establishing client service delivery targets. Consistently, you maintain a professional and courteous disposition and hold a high standard for client and customer service.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a mechanical repair environment occasioned by smoke, gas fumes, and machinery noise.

Additional Information

This is a Term employment opportunity with an anticipated end date of September 2, 2024. The appointment status Term is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade: MOS 18

Salary Range: $2,266.06 - $2,338.33 Bi-Weekly
