Position: Public Works \xe2\x80\x93 Maintenance Person (Janitorial/Custodian) Reports to: Public Works \xe2\x80\x93 Infrastructure Supervisor Last Updated: March 2023 Salary: $35,554 to $39,949 per year **Under review** POSITION SUMMARY: The Public Works Maintenance Custodian is a full-time labor position, reporting daily to the Infrastructure Supervisor. This position requires a responsible maintenance person/custodian to clean and maintain Town facilities. The overall appearance of our buildings should reflect favorably in the eyes of Town of Cornwall residents and users of Town facilities. This position will be responsible for opening and closing of facilities for rentals, programs etc resulting in a schedule that will include evenings and weekends to meet operational needs. The ideal candidate will be experienced in maintenance and custodial roles focused on building upkeep. They will have the physical endurance to cover a large space. A keen eye for detail and diligence are also imperative in the custodial maintenance position. The position will sometimes be alone on site but needs to have strong personal suitability to function as part of the Infrastructure team. EXAMPLES OF WORK:
- Daily cleaning, housekeeping and sanitizing of various Town buildings including public spaces, entrances, kitchens, storage areas, etc.
- Weekly and monthly deep cleaning and sanitizing to include but not limited to: public spaces, storage areas including toy room, children\xe2\x80\x99s lockers, kitchen and washroom facilities, entrances, walls, floors and windows;
- Moving heavy furniture and equipment;
- Sweep, mop and wax floors;
- Vacuuming & shampooing carpets;
- Cleaning, disinfecting and restocking washrooms;
- Operating industrial cleaning equipment;
- Removing snow and debris from around entrances;
- Maintain outer premises by watering plants, cleaning entrances;
- Perform and document routine inspection and maintenance activities;
- Notify management of occurring deficiencies or needs for repairs;
- Pick up and remove waste;
- Carry out heavy cleansing tasks and special projects;
- Stock and maintain supply rooms;
- Follow all health and safety regulations;
- Unlock buildings for bookings/programming, de-activate alarms;
- Ensure the building is secure while working;
- Secure facilities after operating hours and bookings by locking doors, closing windows and activate security systems;
- Assisting with other maintenance activities as required;
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must have completed grade 12 or equivalent;
- Valid PEI driver\xe2\x80\x99s license;
- Access to a vehicle during work hours, travel to various buildings - mileage for use of personal vehicle for work purposes will be reimbursed;
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings and weekends to meet operational requirements;
- Proven experience as a maintenance person/custodian/janitor or in a similar role;
- Integrity and ability to work independently and in a team environment;
- Ability to receive direction from supervisor and other maintenance/custodial staff;
- Knowledge of and ability to use industrial cleaning equipment and appliances;
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies;
- Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components;
- Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets;
- WHMIS training certified (training can be supplied);
- Attention to detail and conscientiousness;
- Very good physical condition and ability to lift up to 50lbs;
- Subject to a police criminal record check;
- Required to abide and carry out the policies and direction of the Town of Cornwall;
- Ability to work effectively with co-workers of all Town of Cornwall departments and the public;
