Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey\xe2\x80\x99s Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a MECHANICAL ENGINEERING STUDENT for the Winter 2024 semester to join our Vale Newfoundland and Labrador Operations in Long Harbour within the Maintenance Department. This is a fixed term (4 month) position. This position will be on a 4x10s schedule (Monday to Thursday OR Tuesday to Friday) working at the Long Harbour Operations site in Long Harbour, NL.

As a Mechanical Engineering Co-op Student, you will have the opportunity to further your development by providing day-to-day support for various projects and initiatives within the Maintenance Department. From working alongside Maintenance Engineers, Coordinators and Operations Personnel to assist with a wide variety of tasks related to technical and engineering support for the Leach Plant area to leadership development, diversity & inclusion, and culture, you will have a holistic and enriching experience like no other.

In this position, you will:

• Working with the maintenance engineer to review/develop detailed mechanical, electrical & instrumentation engineering drawings and specifications. Participating in reviews and troubleshooting of various Leach Plant equipment.
• Assist maintenance coordinators with problem solving, troubleshooting and execution of urgent repairs by providing technical support.
• Coordinating improvement projects and initiatives, interfacing with other departments and outside vendors
• Field verification of and updating electrical/mechanical drawings.
• Assisting with document management and site Management of Change (MOC) process
• Support the Safe Production Model of risk and hazard management and lead by example.

About You

Education:

• Currently enrolled as a student in a Mechanical Engineering (Co-op) Program.

Skills:

• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal communication, analytical and problem-solving skills and a proven safety record are essential.
