Job Description

Cavendish Farms is a leading producer of frozen food products for retail and foodservice markets throughout Canada, the United States, and around the world. We have state-of-the-art potato processing plants in Prince Edward Island, Lethbridge, Alberta, and Jamestown, North Dakota, and an appetizer plant in Wheatley, Ontario. Our Head office is in Dieppe, New Brunswick and has sales office locations in Toronto, Montreal, and Boston.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Engineering and Maintenance Manager is responsible for managing the maintenance department. Working closely with the Production Manager, the Engineering and Maintenance Manager will be responsible to ensure we develop, implement, and maintain a predictive and preventative maintenance system along with daily management of the maintenance staff.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plans and schedules mechanics\xe2\x80\x99 daily and long-term workload.
• Coordinates mechanics work with the production department.
• Develops and implements PM\xe2\x80\x99s (Preventative Maintenance work orders).
• Implement and maintain the maintenance budget.
• Responsible for the actions, output and health & safety of maintenance department employees and related contractors.
• Ensure that all equipment and the building is properly maintained to ensure trouble-free and on-time manufacturing.
• Develop and maintain capable and effective employees in the maintenance functions, ensuring training and proper certification for existing and new equipment, up-to-date maintenance techniques or regulatory compliance.
• Maintain a positive employee-relations environment and participate in the Health & Safety Committee
• Arrange with suppliers to obtain and/or install equipment and parts in a cost- effective manner.
• Continuously improve maintenance resources (staff, equipment, inventory), process, and efficiencies against standard.
• Create required maintenance & engineering reports and address any performance and/or cost variances.
• Maintain a superior Preventative Maintenance program to reduce downtime and control maintenance costs.
• Address processing departments\xe2\x80\x99 requirements and day-to-day equipment operating issues by ensuring open and effective communications with all other departments.
• Participate in committees as the maintenance representative to ensure environmental compliance as well as HACCP and CFIA compliance.
• Perform applicable food safety duties in the absence of Electrical Supervisor and Maintenance Supervisor
• Oversee the security of the premises.

Qualifications and Abilities

• Engineering degree, P.Eng., and/or relevant Trade certification
• 5+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience managing and directing fast paced maintenance activities in a food manufacturing plant.
• Project management experience
• Demonstrated leadership skills
• A strong communicator, both written and oral, who is confident, decisive, able to deal with conflict and yet achieve win-win results
• Seeks out and applies best practices as solutions to correct deficiencies
• Continues to examine opportunities for personal growth and industry knowledge.
