About the job

Working as part of a small maintenance team at the Monteith Correctional Centre, you will enjoy a variety of tasks as well as a steady daytime work schedule, Mondays to Fridays. In this role you can expect to:
Carry out routine and preventative maintenance of all electrical/electronic equipment, tools and appliances
Determine work methods in accordance with government codes and by-laws
Estimate material and labour requirements
Perform a variety of minor maintenance functions such as plumbing, mechanical and lock service
Instruct and supervise inmate helpers and report on their performance
What you bring to the team

Mandatory
You have a License/Certification as a Construction/Maintenance Electrician as recognized by the Province of Ontario
Technical Knowledge and Skills
You have:
experience with the techniques, equipment and tools used for installing electrical equipment
knowledge of relevant legislation, municipal by-laws and codes, provincial building codes, etc.
knowledge of blueprints, schematics and drawings to ensure the proper layout of installations
an understanding of workplace health and safety requirements (such as Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS)
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
You can:
estimate labour and material requirements
inspect and repair electrical systems
recognize workplace hazards and security breaches so that corrective actions can be promptly taken
find cause and recommend repairs for defects in electrical, mechanical and electronic systems
Communication Skills
You can:
discuss requests for new installations or repairs
explain technical matters in easily understood terms
demonstrate tact and discretion in order to train and supervise inmate helpers in electrical methods and procedures and report their performance
prepare reports, maintain logs and draft plans, sketches and cost estimates for new projects
Computer skills
You are:
proficient with information systems to perform necessary quality assurance checks and locate/isolate issues
able to access, read, and evaluate data produced by automated systems, prepare reports and input data
