Purpose of the Role
The Maintenance and Custodian Worker is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and basic upkeep of Payukotayno facilities. This dual-function role performs both janitorial duties and minor maintenance tasks to support a culturally safe, welcoming, and operationally sound environment for staff, clients, and visitors.
The role supports service delivery across multiple office and residential sites and upholds the organization's standards of respect, confidentiality, and community care in all physical spaces.
Core Responsibilities
1. Janitorial and Custodial Duties
Clean offices, restrooms, kitchens, common areas, and meeting rooms on a regular schedule
Dispose of garbage, recycling, and hazardous materials according to agency and safety standards
Replenish supplies (e.g., soap, paper products) and maintain cleaning equipment in good condition
Ensure that all spaces are clean, accessible, and culturally welcoming to staff and guests
2. Maintenance and Repair Support
Conduct minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, or patching minor wall damage
Report larger facility issues (e.g., leaks, heating problems) to Supervisor - Facilities and Logistics
Assist with seasonal maintenance such as snow removal, de-icing, and outdoor upkeep as needed
3. Operational Support
Set up rooms for meetings, events, or staff gatherings and support furniture arrangement and cleanup
Assist with deliveries, supplies handling, and storage room organization
Help with transport and set-up of materials for off-site agency functions
4. Safety and Compliance
Follow cleaning protocols aligned with public health and safety standards
Use cleaning products, tools, and safety equipment responsibly and in accordance with training
Document tasks completed, hazards identified, and maintenance issues in daily log
Required Qualifications and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience in custodial, janitorial, or facility maintenance roles
Ability to operate cleaning and maintenance equipment safely and efficiently
Attention to detail, strong work ethic, and reliability
Willingness to maintain cleanliness and uphold health and safety practices
Equivalency will be considered. Experience working in a First Nations organization or with community spaces is an asset.

Ability to lift and carry items, perform physical tasks, and work indoors/outdoors year-round
