A day in the role of Maintenance at Lancaster Long Term Care Residence.

As Maintenance at Lancaster Long Term Care Residence, you will be given high expectations, as well as an expectation to continue personal growth and professional growth. In this position, you will be gifted with a rewarding experience every day in the form of being able to see the exact impact you place on our residents.

As Maintenance, you will report directly to the Executive Director. This position will be casual, so candidates must be available to work evenings and weekends, as well as a variety of shifts. Schedules will be provided.

This position is responsible for but not limited to:

  • As directed and in accordance with applicable codes and regulations, performs a variety of routine maintenance, servicing and repair operations to maintain home, equipment, furnishings, fixtures, and grounds in proper condition.
  • Responsible for effectively scheduling and supervising maintenance and repair work.
  • Assigns maintenance crew to specific tasks, supervises to ensure standards and safety rules are observed and maintained.
  • Observes and monitors all areas of the facility for ongoing maintenance requirements and carries out preventative maintenance programs as directed.
  • Supervises the Handyperson and Painters, prepares time and work schedules, staff training and performance appraisals.
  • Performs typical work such as replacing fuses and light bulbs, repairing call bells, clearing drains, repairing beds, chairs, tables, etc., painting and redecorating tasks, replacing tiles, and removing garbage.
  • Following approval, refers problems requiring specialized work such as electrical or plumbing, to outside contractors and monitors work performed.
  • Provides general assistance to skilled tradespersons such as mechanics, electricians, carpenters, plumbers, painters, etc., as required.
  • Conducts regular maintenance rounds to ensure all life safety and building and support systems are functioning properly.
  • Adheres to established policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, safety, environment, and infection control.
  • Supervises fire prevention and fire drill procedures, including staff training, in proper procedures and use of firefighting equipment. Liaises with local municipal Fire Departments.
  • Liaises with outside service contractors and inspectors to assure equipment and environment conform with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Participates in budget preparation and control. Orders and/or purchases supplies/equipment in accordance with established purchasing policies and budgetary constraints.
  • Participates in committee meetings such as infection control, quality assurance and safety, as required. Establishes and maintains communications with other departments and works cooperatively in carrying out duties to assure the needs of residents are being met.
  • Maintains required records, reports, statistics, etc., in accordance with policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
  • Ensures the privacy of residents during performance of duties.
  • Maintains work area in a clean, orderly and safe manner and assures proper care in use of tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Notifies the Executive Director of significant building/equipment malfunctions/problems.
  • Any other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Bilingual - French and English
  • French Speaking Preferred
  • Secondary School Graduate or equivalent
  • Ability to train, direct and supervise others
  • Experience in general maintenance and repairs
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, plumbing, carpentry,ability to read and interpret manuals related to equipment and systems
  • Ability to read and write English and follow written instructions
  • Ability to effectively communicate with residents and staff
  • Good understanding of chemical and equipment use
  • Must have a clear vulnerable sector screen, no older than 6 months, TB test results less than 6 months old, must be able to provide three supervisory references.
  • Lancaster Long Term Care Residence recognizes the importance of immunization to protect our residents, staff and others from COVID-19.
