$34.20 to $36.62 per hour



HOURS:

40 hours per week, 12 months per year


JOB SUMMARY:




Under the joint general guidance of the Transportation Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor, the position will administer the day-

to day operations of the Divisional garage including repair and maintenance of Division vehicles, school buses, and maintenance


vehicles within the guidelines, regulations, and policies of the Louis Riel School Division. This position supports the strategic


actions of the Multi-Year Strategic Plan.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:





As the Transportation Mechanic, your responsibilities and duties will include, but not be limited to:


Performing scheduled vehicle preventative maintenance, repairs, and safety inspections. Maintaining an established level of shop safety practices as per provincial safety standards Administrative tasks which include administering day to day operations of the garage, purchasing parts and supplies within the allocated budget and assisting with vehicle registration.


Opening and closing shops, yards and buildings and ensuring security of the yard and buildings including gates and alarms.

QUALIFICATIONS:





EDUCATION



o Completion of high school education.


Red Seal Truck and Transport Mechanic is required. Provincial Vehicle Inspector certificate - School Bus is required. Class V Driver's License is required. A valid Manitoba Driver's License, access to a reliable vehicle, and a satisfactory Driver's abstract is required.


EXPERIENCE



o Minimum three years practical experience as a Mechanic working on school buses is required.




KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES



o Must have strong map reading and mathematical skills.


Must have knowledge of Provincial Regulations (MR465/88, MR P250) and Laws (HTA, National Safety Code), school bus operational best practices and standard safety procedures.


Must demonstrate proficiency in industry specific software as well as general software applications i.e. Word, Excel, etc. Knowledge of Division policies and procedures, FIPPA, PHIA, WHMIS, WSH policies and procedures, WCB, and collective agreements would be an asset.


Good understanding of the role of confidentiality and privacy issues Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, databases, email, and internet (Microsoft Office products preferred)


Ability to resolve complaints and concerns and provide assistance in a helpful and courteous manner. Ability to manage multiple demands combined with good problem-solving skills. Excellent judgment and analytical skills with the ability to interpret situations accurately and act accordingly. Excellent public relations, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills Excellent team player combined with an ability to work independently. Excellent verbal and written communication skills is both official languages (English and French) would be an asset.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:





Possess and maintain valid Manitoba Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic or Truck and Transport Certificate. Possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Manitoba Class 2 driver's license
with school bus endorsement.


The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.


A Police Information Check, a Child Abuse Registry Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and a clear driver's abstract, satisfactory to the employer will be required from the successful candidate, at their expense.


Must review and comply with Divisional policies and guidelines. Respect in School or equivalent training is required. Physically capable of performing the duties of this position with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to work days, and some early morning or late evenings is required.
