Heartland Constructors is currently hiring Machinist Journeypersons to join the Imperial Oil Kearl Lake Maintenance project team on site near Fort MacKay, Alberta. This is a long-term Maintenance role until 2023; Shift schedule is 14 days on, 14 days off.

Machinists set up and operate precision metal cutting (line boring) machining equipment to make and repair products made from metals on heavy mining equipment. They work according to very precise specifications. When there are no prints or other specifications, they determine dimensions by logic or by measuring samples using instruments such as micrometers and calipers. Electronic instruments have digital readouts and require the operator to program them for use.

To perform a typical machining task, Machinists:

• Study specifications, charts, drawings or sample parts to determine the machining operation to be performed,
• Calculate dimensions and tolerances and prepare working sketches if necessary,
• Measure and mark metal and other materials,
• Set up and operate tools, which may be computer numerically controlled, to perform precision machining operations, and,
• Fit parts to mechanisms and verify dimensions.

Responsibilities:

• Overhaul & maintain various types of large open cut mining equipment,
• Perform onsite line boring operations and surface milling procedures on all makes and models of open cut - mining equipment,
• Workshop and field-based machining operations on a wide variety of earth moving components to tight tolerances (such as +/- .0005" in most cases),
• Blueprint reading,
• I.D bore welding and bore reclamation; face build ups and machining to OEM specifications,
• Onsite maintenance including but not limited to: Caterpillar & Komatsu haul trucks, track dozers, graders, front end loaders, excavators and shovels.

Minimum Requirements:

• Provincial Journeyperson or Red Seal Certification.
• Previous Maintenance Services experience (e.g. Steady state, Turnaround, Shutdown, Outage, etc.).
• Previous experience working in a mine.
• Experience operating CLIMAX tooling and CLIMAX line boring equipment.
• Line Boring experience including bore build-up.
• Mobile field machining experience.
• Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS-09 or 2020) Certification.
• First Aid - Standard Level Certification.
• Forklift training.
• Basic Rigging.
• Overhead Crane and Rigging.
• Valid non-restricted Driver's License and a clean 3 Year Driver's Abstract.
• Fit Test.
