Reporting to the Mechanical Trades and Technologies department, this role supports the machining, repair, and maintenance of equipment used across various programs at Patricia Campus. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, fabricating, and maintaining lab equipment and teaching aids, while also contributing to the planning and coordination of technical support activities. As a member of the Patricia Campus Tech Team, this role will also provide additional support to programs and team operations as needed.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently assess equipment issues, determine appropriate level of repair, and carry out repair work efficiently
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment and machinery
  • Manufacture parts and maintain tooling systems
  • Maintain shop and lab spaces to ensure safety and functionality
  • Source and manage consumables and tooling for departmental needs
  • Plan and coordinate repairs for program-specific and interdepartmental equipment
  • Design and fabricate jigs, fixtures, and teaching aids
  • Develop technical drawings and CNC programs
  • Troubleshoot equipment and system issues
  • Assist with lab setup and teardown
Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient with computers and related software
  • Skilled in the safe and effective use of machining tools and equipment
  • Ability to independently assess equipment issues, determine appropriate repair strategies, and execute repairs efficiently
  • Ability to assess material needs and estimate project costs
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs unassisted
  • Flexible with work hours and task assignments
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • Journeyperson Machinist certificate required
  • Experience using CAD/CAM software would be an asset
  • Experience servicing/repairing and manufacturing parts for machining equipment
  • Several years' experience related to position assignment
  • Possession of a valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license

Remuneration: $74,985.82 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Machinist I).
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
