What we do



At Zero Point Cryogenics we are growing quickly and commercializing our core product, dilution refrigerators, which are the primary low-temperature platform for quantum computers and quantum technology research. We design, engineer, fabricate, assemble, test, and install state-of-the art dilution refrigerators for our customers in quantum computing companies, as well as university and government labs. Born from a low-temperature physics research group, with a focus on low-temperature excellence, at ZPC innovation is in our roots. We are continuously improving our current systems and developing new systems to meet the varying needs of our customers.

We are looking for a highly technical hands-on person to fill the role of Machinist as part of our growing team. Our ideal candidate will be accustomed to working in fabrication and assembly settings. They will be able to prioritize multiple concurrent projects and be passionate about doing so in a detailed and organized manner. Our machining and manufacturing processes are paramount to ensure the quality of our products. While it will continue to be a team effort, our ideal candidate is highly skilled and comfortable working with 3- and 4-Axis CNC milling machines and lathes to create highly specialized parts. What you will do



Working closely with our fabrication lead you will have the opportunity to machine our next generations of dilution refrigerators and other cryogenic products. We expect you to ask questions, learn, be open to growth, and attend technical training as required.

Take instruction from the fabrication lead and to ensure on-time delivery of finished parts and ordering of raw materials Collaborate on designs using unique materials and geometry based on their physical properties Recommend new processes or systems for improvement; implement new ideas and strategies Responsible for programming, setting up, and operating equipment and machines to build scientific instruments Provide assistance with regards to the maintenance and preventative maintenance of equipment Communicate performances and efficiencies with management Ensure cleanliness, maintenance, and organization of your area Read manufacturer's manuals, drawings, and quality control specifications for storage and maintenance requirements

You can succeed in this role if you:



You hold a valid Journeyman certification, or possess equivalent hands-on experience with proven competency in the trade Have experience working in a manufacturing setting Are able to follow written directions as issued by our production team (Including Work Orders, Production Instructions, and Inspection requirements, etc.) with little or no supervision Are able to program, set up, operate and troubleshoot prototype and short production runs Are able to read and interpret drawings Have a passion for accuracy and are detail-oriented Have excellent time-management skills to meet firm deadlines Are flexible and have an open mind Are able to solve problems in a cost-effective way - your programs dictate how effective we are on our shop floor Are able to propose improved ways of communicating and fabricating projects Have motivation and work ethic to stay engaged in a fast-paced, creative problem-solving environment Have willingness to help the team overcome obstacles even if it's not in your job description Have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written, with the ability to clearly articulate ideas and challenges with a collaborative attitude Have a sense of responsibility for technical quality of work, own your mistakes, and hold yourself accountable to continuous improvement Have a willingness to take on unfamiliar tasks and to help the team learn what you figure out Are open to respectfully take guidance and training from management and coworkers Have a sense of ownership for the space that you are working in Have an excellent work history and solid references Have the ability to lift 30 kg Have a valid driver's license

Strong candidates will have:



Journeyman machinist ticket with red seal, or other related field MasterCam experience an asset Experiencein a prototype shop Proficient computer skills specifically with Microsoft and Google software Demonstrated time-management and task-prioritization skills The ability to work with a high-degree of independence and integrate cohesively within the team Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize duties, and quickly assume new tasks as required

Compensation



Annual salary of $80,000-$95,000 Annually.

All employees will be eligible to participate in our generous benefits package.

Location and Schedule



Our shop is located at 9773 45th Ave NW, Edmonton. This position is full-time Monday to Friday, starting between 7am-9am. We aim to create a flexible work schedule that allows our employees to meet obligations outside of work. However, there may be irregular hours to meet certain deadlines and we will be required to track our time for project costing. We expect the candidate to work the necessary hours to complete all tasks; however, salary is based on the position and is not on an hourly basis.
