We are excited to share this opportunity to join our team as a Panning Operator - Trainee. This permanent, full-time role, reporting to the Operations Manager, will be based out of Richmond BC with adhoc time spent onsite supporting our Delta BC location.
What you will be doing: Under general supervision, the primary function of the panning operator is to exercise skill and experience in the operation of panning machines and equipment, ensuring that quality production is achieved on time and on schedule while following all Health & Safety and Quality Standards. The position is responsible for working with raw materials, work in progress (wip), and finished product, operating equipment in any of the panning rooms both automatic and manual; providing guidance and direction to support staff/packagers; accurately administering and processing required documentation related to finished product; All plant staff are required to operate within a flexible work hour environment.

  • Operates coating pans using knowledge and familiarity of the manual coating program; analyzes, controls, and adjusts the various parameters affecting the coating; ensures gross compliance (grossing) is performed (quantity of raw material to be coated, % chocolate); optimizes production time by facilitating changes in the line, chocolate tank, and drain line.
  • Operates polishing pans using knowledge and familiarity of the manual frosting program; analyzes, controls, and adjusts various parameters affecting the glaze; ensures gross compliance (amount of syrup glaze \'pre-glaze\' is added) is performed; checks the quality of the ingredients used and advises if they do not meet established quality standards (pre-glaze); checks the brightness of the expected product has several stages of production.
  • Performs cleaning and sanitation practices of equipment to ensure cleanliness and the removal of allergens. Environmental cleaning and housekeeping are maintained to high standards. Sanitation logs are completed accurately and timely.
  • Checks production parameters (temperature, moisture) and advises if they are outside implemented standards.
  • Completes all internal and regulatory reporting to accurately track product, ensure quality, efficiency, and ingredient usages to generate company metrics.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves problems; ensures proper functioning of equipment and escalates to supervisor/manager as required.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures in maintaining a safe work environment for self and others.
  • Promotes a continuous learning environment and sharing of best practices, methods and ideas.
  • Performs such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, from time to time, without advanced notice.
  • Champions a culture of high performance through employee engagement and continuous improvement orientation in all actions and approaches.

  • Solid command of the English language; ability to both comprehend and communicate both verbally and in writing.

  • Able to perform physically repetitive tasks while standing, walking or sitting (8-10 hour shift)
  • Able to lift up to 25kgs. on a regular basis
  • Strong manual dexterity and hand eye coordination
  • Knowledgeable on all process equipment and processes within the panning departments (auto and manual panning); clear understanding of facilitating a production run.
  • Intermediate problem solving and time management skill; able to organize and accomplish tasks within set timeframes
  • Able to work in a variety of environments including wet, humid, particulate (dusty), cold, hot, and indoor/outdoor
  • Strong can-do/ service attitude; capable of dealing with uncertainty
  • Possess a continuous improvement and learning orientation; adaptable and open to change
  • High school diploma/GED
  • 2+ years in a manufacturing or food processing environment

Working Conditions:
This position is required to operate and perform in a food manufacturing, production, and warehousing environment. Unique or special features of the job include:
  • 80-90% of the day is spent standing, walking, bending, stooping/reaching.
  • Repetitive upper body (hand, arm, shoulder, back) motion is required
  • Lower body activity is common to frequent (bending, lifting, pushing/pulling, twisting) including regular lifting and/or moving items over 55 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
