Machine Maintenance Technician This position reports directly to the Assistant Production Manager and works with production and building maintenance staff on a regular basis. The Machine Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a variety of functions including, but not limited to assembling, installing, and maintaining mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment. Including Insulated Glass, PVC and Door manufacturing equipment and machinery. The position operates a variety of specialized tools and equipment, and maintains a safe, clean, and respectful work environment. Key Responsibilities
Performing regular and preventative machinery maintenance including repairs based on the maintenance schedule and IAW manufacturers recommendations (Urban, Elumatec, & Erdman are some mfrs.)
Performing troubleshooting tasks and detecting malfunctions through observation (sound or visual)
Troubleshooting machinery and performing routine preventative maintenance
Reading, interpreting, and following instructions and operation manuals
Maintaining a schedule for inspecting, servicing, and testing machinery
Cleaning, repairing, and installing equipment and parts as needed
Running diagnostic tests to ensure system functionality
Repairing broken or faulty machine parts, including performing emergency repairs as required.
Choosing appropriate material based on mechanical needs
Aligning and calibrating machine parts
Maintaining accurate records of machinery maintenance
Monitoring and reporting on project progress
Dealing with contractors as required
Controlling downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques
Providing feedback improvement suggestions to the supervisor and implement those that are within their ability
Planning the inspection of machinery for the purpose of evaluating condition and need for repair, rebuild, modification, or replacement
Notifying the supervisor for the need to order parts and materials for the purpose of affecting the most economical repairs/modifications to components and machinery
Ensuring all maintenance and related information is entered into the computerized maintenance, information and tracking systems
Communicating safety issues to the Assistant Production Manager and/or Health and Safety Coordinator/Shop Foreman or appropriate personnel in a timely manner
Ensuring Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is worn properly and as instructed by the Health and Safety Coordinator/Shop Foreman
Operating forklifts and vehicles while ensuring its smooth and safe operation, once qualified and insurable
Ensuring the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by inspecting and cleaning them before and after use
Adhering to plant safety rules and established health and safety and other relevant policies and procedures
Maintaining professional behavior in all dealings with colleagues, vendors and suppliers.
Following Health & Safety procedures and protocols at all times.
Requirements
Minimum of 2 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience as a machine maintenance technician or mechanic within a manufacturing or processing environment
Strong familiarity with pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanics with demonstrated abilities in troubleshooting through deductive reasoning and schematics
Ability to operate equipment such as scissor lifts, forklifts and bobcat skid steers, as well as conduct inspections of same
Familiarity and competence with a variety of hand- and power-tools.
Ability to lift materials weighing 50 lbs and up.
Detail orientation, accuracy and problem-solving skills.
Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and an individual drive to succeed while always being a strong team player.
Completion of a high school diploma, with additional courses or training related to mechanical and equipment maintenance an asset.
A valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license with a minimum of 3 years driving experience and a clean driver\xe2\x80\x99s abstract.
