Position Summary

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Dock Manager is a hands-on positions that will oversee the day to day operations of the Dock. Additionally, you will collaborate with supervisors, team leads, dispatch, drivers, and provide customer service to ensure the overall business operations are efficient, effective and meet overall company mandates.

Location: 6767 Davand Drive, Mississauga

Schedule: The Dock Manager has accountability for both day and afternoon shifts. Dayshift is normally 6:30am - 3:00pm. With flexibility to join the afternoon shift occasionally as required.

What you\'ll do

  • Leads operations with a hands on presence to meet fullest capacity of the LTL Dock in order to meet the needs of customers
  • Provides positive customer service to all internal and external customers
  • Supervise, lead and coach employees in all areas of operations including safety, efficiency in runs, loading and unloading trucks, claim management, and dispatch
  • Provide a presence and hands on support on the Dock as required
  • Maintain staff levels that insure an acceptable level of productivity and performance
  • Manage profitability of the peddle and parcel runs by reviewing processes with key accounts
  • Monitor freight movement to ensure maximum load factors and service levels to minimize claims
  • Work with all employees to ensure smooth operations under all conditions
  • Administer reporting and record keeping on key KPI\'s that include productivity, utilization and service levels
  • Minimize severity and frequency of accidents of contractors, drivers and dock personnel through risk identification process
  • Plan work schedules, ensuring adequate staffing requirements
  • Develop and execute training plan for all Dock employees
  • Manage inventory of tools and supplies to reduce risk, loss and damage
  • Practices Safe work procedures and ensures team practices safe work
  • Assists as needed in all areas that affect the operations goals and objectives; thereby, the company goals and objectives
What you\'ll bring
  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience in a LTL/general freight facility.
  • 5 years of experience managing a team or previous leadership experience is required
  • Must have hands on experience operating a cross dock for LTL function
  • Thorough knowledge of LTL industry, DOT Rules and Regulations, TDG, Hazardous Materials Regulations, Tariff Rules, hours of service and carrier safety laws
  • Strong organizational skills, time management, problem solving and prioritization abilities
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work under pressure and manage critical and unplanned requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster and build working relationships with a diverse workforce, in addition to vendors, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Competent ability and capacity to get the job done through a hand on approach.
  • Experience using all Microsoft Office programs, Excel
  • Experience using logistics software is expected (AS400 is an asset)
  • Working knowledge of WHMIS and the Health & Safety Act.
