Shift:

Monday-Friday; 7:00am-4:00pm



SUMMARY

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of dock operations through the shift Foremen and Lead Hands. They ensure freight is loaded and unloaded according to company policy i.e. safety and priority.



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise of all dock staff including hiring, orientation, training, meeting terminal target times, continuous employee performance measurement/appraisals, operational report management, and any progressive discipline. Supervise and assign workers for loading and unloading. Ensure proper handling of product to avoid injury to employee, damages, freezing, and thawing of product. Communicate with all shift foremen and terminal manager regarding freight issues and major operational issues. Follow up with staff regarding loading and O.S.& D. issues. Responsible for all dock functions including foreman responsibilities, the stripping of incoming units, loading outgoing freight, dock equipment, freezer area, pallet sorting, and outside carrier activity. Assist when required. Authorize leaves, timecards, overtime, and attendance records according to company policy. Prioritize incoming and outgoing freight. Work with dispatch regarding loads, drivers, volume of freight and progress of dock and loading. Plan employee shifts and schedule requested vacation time according to company policy and procedure. Ensure proper safety procedures are always maintained and assist with investigations. Assist Operations Manager in conducting ongoing Health and Safety meetings. Coordinate training of new and current staff through shift foreman and any Lead Hands. Communicate any new loading procedures with staff. Monitor dock equipment and any necessary repairs. This includes forklifts, batteries, and handjacks. Communicate with Terminal Manager regarding major repairs. All other duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

2-3 years of dock experience required. Experience managing employees considered an asset. Experience with MS Office Suite required and AS400 preferred. Excellent time management, organizational skills including planning and scheduling. Quality decision making skills, ability to use good judgment and remain calm in demanding times. An understanding of routing, O.S. & D, and dock and yard procedures is considered an asset. Reach truck and fork-lift certificates are required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Salaried position. Overtime may be required.
