Light Rail Transit (LRT) Track Inspector is responsible for supporting the management and delivery of efficient track inspections across all project phases. The inspector will be responsible for ensuring the safety, quality and compliance of railway tracks by performing detailed inspections, audits and monitoring track delivery based on Transport Canada Regulations, Project Agreement and any of legislation related to responsibly of this position.
The position will require you to inspect track components, check that construction meets engineering standards, and ensure that track work is safe for use after testing and commissioning is completed. Key duties include evaluating track condition, monitoring construction, conduct audits, safety oversight, managing quality control, reviewing project documentation, reporting findings and sign-off on completed work.
This role will require a strong knowledge of Transport Canada regulations, any related Project Agreements, and local legislation that regulates your responsibilities. This role will support all inspection activities related to Trackworks for the assigned project. You must be able to operate various small hand-held/power inspection tools, small equipment and handle limited hazardous materials. You will be working in a team environment building and maintaining railways in numerous locations across Canada.
This roll will be responsible for the Operating & Maintenance Service Facility (OMSF), various yards, mainline and any track related to the overall assigned project(s). This role may require working evenings, weekends and travelling to different sites as necessary.
This role will report directly into the Assistant Director of Operations.
This role will require an individual with previous turnkey LRT Track Inspection experience.
Job Duties
Trackwork Inspector duties will be, but not limited to:
Monitor the quality of completed track construction work (including new tracks, turnouts and all other track construction related work) at the OMSF, any related yards, mainline track and any other related track assigned to the project(s)
Conduct track inspections at required intervals, compile accurate records, and address exceptions through timely corrective actions, mitigating safety risks and ensuring operational reliability
Familiar with AREMA and LRT inspection standards.
Monitor and inspect track construction and perform detailed turnout inspections
Monitor destressing and welding of rail, perform audits and inspections
Ensure the track construction work is performed in accordance with the clients engineering track standards requirements and in accordance with Contract Documents
Perform Quality Control and Quality Assurance on track materials and perform audits and inspection on supplied track material and completed track construction work
Review design drawings, reports and project specifications
Conduct / participate in In Service Tack Inspections and sign-off on inspection forms prior to opening tracks for service after closures in accordance with client's requirements
Able to thoroughly understand clients Work Plan Methodology requirements and Review and comment on Contractor's Work Plan Methodology submissions and permit documents in accordance with client's requirement
Prepare detailed Track Inspection Reports outlining resources, equipment and photographs of work progress, memorandums as required by client based on its knowledge of client's track standard documents
Deliver regulatory compliance to York Rail and Client's safety practices, policies, and procedures, ensuring employees operate in a safe and compliant manner while fostering a culture of workplace safety
Maintain proper records of the inspections; notes and tracks corrective actions for exceptions
Direct maintenance activities aligned with selective renewal plans for various track components, ensuring optimal performance and longevity of track infrastructure
Support the review and monitoring of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and specifications for trackwork to ensure project deliverables meet client expectations.
Perform physical inspections of all trackwork's during in-process and at final inspection hold points
Monitor on-site activities to ensure compliance with quality, productivity, schedule, and safety standards
Ensure strict adherence to Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Metrolinx safety standards, and corporate safety policies
Lead by example in enforcing site safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, and implementing mitigation measures to maintain a safe work environment for all personnel involved in trackwork construction
Contribute to the development and integration of trackwork inspection milestones
Ensure adherence to corporate policies, procedures, and safety standards throughout the project lifecycle
Assist in managing project closeout activities, including documentation, final inspections, and warranty tracking
Various other responsibilities that would be related to a Track Inspector
Job Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of LRT Track Inspector
Minimum of 10 years of LRT/Metro related Experience
In possession of a Valid Class 5 Drivers License
Ability to successfully pass a Criminal Background Check
Ability to successfully pass a Drug Test
Valid CROR Certification is an Asset
Demonstrated experience in construction or maintenance of various track systems such as but not limited to, welded and jointed tracks; vertical and horizontal alignment; timber, concrete, and steel ties; ballast; turnouts; power switch machines; train yard and maintenance facility track layout; station facility track layout; railway customer sidings
Understands Contracts, project specifications and related bid items in form of tender related to track construction
Previous experience with physical track measuring devices including track gauge, Amber track gauge, rail wear gauges and rail temperature gauges
Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience in track installation and strong knowledge of railway construction standards
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write technical reports and engage effectively with stakeholders
Safety & Compliance: Broad knowledge of construction site safety and Occupational Health and Safety regulations
Software Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and document control tools.
Knowledge of general construction and workplace safety lifting and handling procedures
Fluent in English with the ability to read, write and speak effectively
Physically capable of repetitive bending, standing for long periods of time, lifting/carrying 50 lbs. unassisted, repetitive swinging motions and walking on uneven surfaces (approximately 3 miles per day).
Ability to work in the elements across all weather conditions (summer heat, rain, dusty conditions, winter cold etc.)
