HOURS:
7 hours per day, 5 days per week, 12 months per year
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Manager of Accounting, the Accounting Assistant provides clerical and data entry services, processes
accounting transactions for the Division, and supports other team members in their duties. The Accounting Assistant is
responsible for the data entry of various accounting records and information into computerized financial systems, gathering and
managing large volumes of data from various sources, maintaining the confidentiality of the data and processing it accurately
within established guidelines. The incumbent will follow through and verify, test and reconcile information for accuracy, is
responsible for accurately processing, preparing and issuing timely invoices, account statements and other required reports,
following up as required, and will provide high quality customer service to divisional personnel, outside companies, banks and
government agencies. The Accounting Assistant will be required to perform other related duties and support the strategic
actions of the Multi-Year Strategic Plan.
REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
o
completion of one year formal bookkeeping, accounting, or related post-secondary education. One year of recent
experience in a similar position, preferably in School Division or similar setting.
o
strong knowledge and technical skills in accounting, budgeting, and control management
o
excellent computer skills in spreadsheets and strong computer skills in word processing and email; MS Office preferred for
all applications
o
strong computer skills working with accounting systems, Microsoft Dynamics NAV experience an asset
o
strong keyboarding and data entry skills
o
excellent verbal and written communication skills
o
excellent customer service and public relations skills with an ability to handle stressful and difficult situations with tact and
diplomacy
o
ability to work effectively as a team member
o
good attention to detail and organizational skills
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
o Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search.
Clear report from the Child Abuse Registry.
Review and comply with Divisional policies and guidelines.
Continued employment is subject to maintaining legal eligibility to work in Canada.
Respect In School certification or equivalent is required.
