The Opportunity:

4 month work term: September - December 2023

How You Will Contribute:

Ciena\'s customers run many of the largest telecommunications networks in the world connecting hundreds of millions of users. The Liquid Spectrum (LQS) team invents software tools and algorithms which empower owner operators to understand the state of their networks, plan for the future and recognize opportunities for improving network performance. As a member of the LQS team you will have access to large-scale performance monitor, alarm and topology datasets. This data will be used to construct tools to understand and optimize network performance. Projects may include the development of graphical user interfaces, statistical models, and optimization algorithms using reinforcement learning or other approaches.

Requirements:

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills (background in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Physics, etc.)

Strong programming skills and the ability to learn Python

Motivated self-starter with strong written and oral communications skills.

Able to collaborate effectively in person as well as remotely.

Additional Assets:

Experience with SQL

Experience developing user interfaces with frameworks such as React or Plotly Dash

Expertise in graph theory and or graph libraries such as NetworkX

Experience implementing reinforcement learning algorithms.

Familiarity with statistical techniques such as importance sampling.

Knowledge of optical networking
