LOWER SCHOOL LIBRARIAN Founded in 1962, Bayview Glen is an independent, co-educational university preparatory day school with more than 1000 students from Preschool through to Grade 12. Bayview Glen is a member of the CIS Ontario, CAIS, NAIS and Round Square organizations. We\xe2\x80\x99re looking for a full-time Lower School Librarian to join our team, starting in August, 2023. In this role, you will provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library program is aligned with the mission, goals and objectives of the school and is an integral component of the learning/instructional program. You will empower students from Preschool to Grade 5 to increase literacy skills and become enthusiastic readers, lifelong learners, critical thinkers, skillful researchers and ethical users of information. You\xe2\x80\x99ll be reporting to the Head of Lower School and Preschool and be an important member of the Lower School team. What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Be Doing: \xc2\xb7 Developing and maintaining a collection of resources (both physical and digital) appropriate to the curriculum, the learners, and the teaching styles, and the instructional strategies used within the school community. \xc2\xb7 Evaluating, promoting and using existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning while supplementing the school\xe2\x80\x99s digital resources. \xc2\xb7 Providing leadership in the selection, acquisition, evaluation and organization of information resources and technologies in all formats, as well as expertise in the ethical use of information. \xc2\xb7 Promoting a love of reading through various events and schoolwide initiatives including the MS Read-a-thon, Forest of Reading, author visits, and school-wide assemblies. \xc2\xb7 Planning and teaching library classes that focus on developing a love of reading, promoting inquiry and research skills, and connecting our learners to our Global Education Initiative. \xc2\xb7 Supporting students\xe2\x80\x99 success by guiding them in: o Reading for understanding, for exposure to diversity of viewpoints and genres and for pleasure o Using information for a variety of purposes o Building on prior knowledge and constructing new knowledge through inquiry and research o Embracing the world of information and all its formats o Working with peers in successful collaboration for learning o Understanding copyright, fair use and licensing of intellectual property \xc2\xb7 Collaborating with classroom teachers, specialists, and administration to design and implement problem-based inquiry lessons and units of instruction through effective instructional strategies and best practices in the delivery of Bayview Glen\xe2\x80\x99s library curriculum. \xc2\xb7 Creating and maintaining effective and organized physical and virtual library spaces for use by library patrons, classes, clubs, and special events. What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Need:
  • A Bachelor of Education Degree or Master\xe2\x80\x99s in Library and Information Science;
  • Membership with the Ontario College of Teachers with additional qualifications in Teacher-Librarianship (for OCT candidates);
  • 2 to 3 years of direct experience in a Library environment within an Educational Institution or Community would be an asset;
  • Strong communication and presentation skills;
  • Demonstrated passion for literacy among children from preschool and beyond;
  • Experience with the use of Library Management Systems including Follett Destiny and Overdrive.
