The Logistics Supervisor is responsible for the daily oversight and direct execution of all activities related to inbound and outbound logistics, shipping, and receiving operations. This role focuses on the tactical implementation of transportation plans, coordinating the movement of materials and finished goods, and directly supervising the shipping/receiving team. The Supervisor ensures the efficient and compliant flow of products and materials, maintaining high standards of accuracy, safety, and on-time delivery (OTD).
Key Responsibilities
1. Logistics and Distribution Execution
Directly supervise and manage the daily operations of the shipping, receiving, and truck-loading teams.
Coordinate daily shipments with freight carriers, ensuring proper documentation (Bill of Lading, customs forms) is accurately prepared and compliant.
Troubleshoot daily logistics issues, such as delayed shipments, receiving errors, or carrier misroutes.
Ensure all domestic and international shipping regulations and customs requirements are strictly adhered to on the floor.
2. Warehousing and Inventory Support
Oversee the efficient loading, unloading, and staging of materials and finished products, ensuring product integrity and proper placement.
Maintain the physical organization and flow of the shipping and receiving docks for maximum safety and efficiency.
Verify accuracy of receiving records against purchase orders (POs) and immediately report discrepancies to the Materials or Inventory Control team.
Utilize and transact accurately within the Warehouse Management System (WMS) and ERP/MRP systems for all inbound and outbound movements.
3. Team Leadership and Safety
Provide effective training, coaching, and direction to the hourly logistics and warehouse personnel.
Enforce strict adherence to all company safety protocols and OSHA regulations within the shipping/receiving areas.
Conduct regular safety talks and audits of powered industrial equipment (forklifts, reach trucks) operations.
Manage time and attendance for the supervised team and assist the Manager with disciplinary actions and performance evaluations.
4. Performance Monitoring and Reporting
Track and report on daily key performance indicators (KPIs), including shipping volume, receiving turnaround time, and loading efficiency.
Identify and report recurring issues or bottlenecks in the logistics process and suggest immediate corrective actions to the Manager.
Perform other operational duties as assigned by management to ensure a smooth flow of materials.
Knowledge and Experience Requirements
Education:
College Diploma or equivalent experience is required. A bachelor's degree in Logistics or Supply Chain is considered an asset.
Experience:
Minimum 3-5 years of progressive experience in logistics, shipping, or distribution, with at least 1-2 years in a Supervisory or Lead Hand role.
Technical Skills:
+ Strong working knowledge of shipping documentation (BOLs, Customs Invoices) and freight classification.
+ Proficiency in utilizing ERP/MRP systems (e.g., Infor SyteLine) and WMS for shipping and receiving functions.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for daily tracking and data reporting.
