2. Position Overview (Logistics Specialist)
The Logistics Specialist is responsible for managing the full cycle of each shipment, from quoting and securing a truck to monitoring transit, resolving issues, and closing out billing and settlement.
Because you will communicate directly with customers and carriers and make real-time decisions, this role is best suited for someone who takes ownership and follows through to the end.
3. Key Responsibilities
Negotiate freight rates with carriers for domestic and cross-border TL and LTL
Source carriers
Respond to spot quotes and customer requests within the expected timeline
Be available after hours to assist with resolving issues
Grow and maintain existing and new carrier or customer relationships
Perform work with a sense of urgency and attention to detail
Collaborate with co-workers to provide solutions to customers
Transition spot quote customers into dedicated customers
Follow up with customers for additional lanes
Work closely with leaders and business development departments to develop compliant cost/price strategies and proposals
Maintain professional communication with the Manager throughout the RFQ process on cost strategies and to ensure the best pricing is presented in each proposal
Research and track competitor pricing and market trends
Maintain and improve the existing pricing process and costs
Responsible for margin improvement through various methods
Identify areas of weakness and improve these areas through carrier procurement
Communicate market insight to operating and sales groups within defined time frames
Upload carrier rates and customer bill rates into the TMS
4. Required Qualifications
4-1. Core Experience and Skills
1-3 years of experience in transportation, freight brokerage, dispatch, or logistics coordination.
Solid understanding of truckload/LTL operations, including:
pick-ups, delivery appointments, border/cross-border, in-transit management, delivery, accessorial charges, etc.
Ability to negotiate rates and discuss costs with carriers and customers by phone and email
Strong ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines at the same time and prioritize effectively
Ability to stay calm in problem situations, identify root causes, and take ownership through resolution
Ability to work full-time on-site Monday-Friday
Candidates with post-secondary education or training in logistics, business, or a related field will be preferred
4-2 Language and Computer Skills
English communication skills sufficient for clear, professional business emails and phone calls
Candidates with additional language skills - French & Spanish will be preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively in a diverse multicultural environment.
MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), Transportation Management Software (TMS)
