The Literacy Specialist conducts learner assessment, and provides one-to one and small group facilitation and on-going learner support, based on the needs of the participants. The incumbent works as a team member ensuring quality programming, service delivery and achievement of project goals.


In this role, you will:




Work with a team of stakeholders/advisory committee to collaboratively plan and implement LBS programs that meet the needs of learners delivering Essential Skills training as well as Life Skills training. Conduct needs assessments to determine learner's training plan and appropriate learning setting. Produce regular reports as required. Report directly to Team Leader or to other staff that might be assigned from time to time, as to the progress of the project. Develop and deliver learner-centered, small group or one-to-one instruction based on the results of the needs assessment. Work with learners to set goals, monitor progress and develop and update individual training plans for learners. Perform on-going assessment. Assist in maintenance of accurate and up-to-date program records and files Enthusiastically assume other responsibilities as required/requested.

You bring:




University degree in Adult Education or related field or equivalent experience Knowledge about LBS programming, OALCF, EOIS-CaMS and needs assessments and program evaluation Excellent interpersonal group facilitation skills Experience developing training plans and workshop content Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with stakeholders; Excellent written communication skills. Ability to work with multi-level learners Knowledge and understanding of issues affecting persons with literacy and learning challenges Strong organizational skills, able to think critically, multitasking, and problem solving Self-starter, creative, energetic and able to work with a minimum of supervision Computer skills (MS Suite, Google Workspace, videoconference platforms, online learning resources); ability to use technology to teach remotely and incorporate technology into face-to-face lessons Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity Travel within the City if required Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, including evenings and weekends.
