Qualifications:
Masters Degree completed, or in progress in Literacy, Leadership, Assessment, Curriculum, or related field
Minimum 5 years experience at of teaching levels P-3
Demonstrated leadership roles in the school and region
Experience in completing thorough literacy assessments on students and aligning evidence-based teaching to respond to the assessments
In-depth knowledge of the literacy processing, acquisition, and assessment
Experience working with and leading Collaborative Learning Teams and Teaching Support Teams in the use of student data and planned response in short cycles
Experience implementing strong literacy instruction within an MTSS framework
Successful evidence of leading and organizing professional development
Ability to foster collaboration among teacher, administrator, and/or support staff
Strong facilitation skills for leading professional learning for adults
Task Dimensions
Support teachers in implementing the Nova Scotia English Language Arts curriculum (Grades P-3) with fidelity and consistency.
Provide coaching, modeling, and professional learning in evidence-based literacy practices across foundational skills, comprehension, vocabulary, and writing.
Collaborate with teachers to design, co-teach, and refine literacy lessons that integrate structured literacy, metalinguistic awareness, and disciplinary literacy.
Guide teachers in using literacy screeners, benchmark assessments, and short-cycle data to inform instruction and intervention.
Model and promote effective instructional routines (e.g., Read Aloud with Think Aloud, Shared Reading, Guided/Small-Group Reading, Writing Workshop, Word Study).
Coach teachers in developing students' foundational skills (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency) and higher-level skills (comprehension, vocabulary, writing)
Facilitate collaborative learning team (CLT) discussions around student work, assessment evidence, and instructional responses.
Ensure Tier 1 instruction is strong and aligned with MTSS, while supporting planning for Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.
Lead and contribute to regional professional development sessions for educators (P-3).
Provide high-quality instructional resources (lesson frameworks, anchor charts, exemplar texts, rubrics) aligned with curriculum outcomes.
Help educators identify student strengths and gaps using data, planning responsive instruction accordingly.
Stay current with research and disciplinary literacy.
Contribute to a shared system-wide bank of literacy resources, strategies, and exemplars.
Strong personal technology skills, including exemplary technology integration in the classroom
Experience in aligning expectations and curricular outcomes across a school/grade levels, horizontal and vertical planning.
Flexible working in various work settings and situations.
Knowledge of the Nova Scotia Teaching Standards.
Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Performs other related duties as required.
