General Summary:

The Line Mechanic - Electrical provides technical support by maintaining, repairing, setting-up, performing machine adjustments to equipment pertaining to the production of Taro drug products including but not limited to filling, packaging, compounding and facilities equipment and is responsible for performance of the production lines.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Apply mechanical and electrical knowledge to perform maintenance related activities include but not limited to the set-up, changeover, operating, troubleshooting, repair of pharmaceutical packaging, compounding, and all supporting auxiliary equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and execute planned repair to improve equipment reliability and packaging efficiency. This includes but is not limited to ensuring all repairs are completed as per the appropriate equipment manuals without deviating from validated parameters. Must comply with safe lock-out procedures, impact assessments of any repair and repair work order documentation.
  • Precision set up of printing and vision inspection system for serialization products.
  • Follow defined process for MES and SAP.
  • Develop and execute continuous improvement projects with a focus on improving safety, quality and efficiency
  • Assist with the training of new hires (line service technicians, operators and mechanics).
  • Provide training and guidance to line operators and line technicians ensuring the equipment is operated in a safe manner.
  • Provide troubleshooting training to line service technicians and operators to minimize intermittent downtime.
  • Assist with the design review and FAT for new equipment and upgrade legacy equipment.
  • Execute Validation protocols.
  • Monitor and advise management /mechanic lead hand regarding low stock for critical spare parts as well as consumable inventory items.
  • Complete GMP documentation right first time in batch records and other relevant GMP documents
  • Complete all training assignments and maintain personal training records
  • Programming, and troubleshooting of PLC control systems,
  • Installation and programming of VFD\'s
  • Set-up & initialization and monitoring & control devices
  • Troubleshoot and maintain drives, electrical controls, electronic circuitry and related processes
  • Update electrical drawing and documentation to ensure accuracy and availability
  • Execute projects under the guidance of engineering related to electrical systems.
  • Supporting implementation of new control systems and applications such as serialization, automations, data backup, etc.
  • Provide support for the installation and upgrade of PLC based hardware and software
  • Identify potential or existing flaws, perform troubleshooting based on computer-aided (CAD) formats
  • Provide support where it is needed to facilities and compounding department
  • Ability to read and understand electrical wiring diagrams, technical documents, schematic design specification
  • Analyzes, diagnose, maintains, and repair direct digital control system components
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent command of the English Language, strong written and oral communication skills with ability to interact with all shop floor employees on a daily basis
  • Sound trouble shooting and root cause analysis skills
  • Understanding of the operation of PLCs, (Allen Bradley, Seimens, Elau, Omron etc). The understanding should include the reading of blue prints for the input / output modules, exterior devices (switches, push buttons, relay coils, solenoids, etc). Software operating within the PLC, Rockwell Automation Logix5, 500 5000, Elau Max-4 and Pac Drive systems, etc.
  • Good Working knowledge of pneumatics.
  • Ability to read and analyze blue prints, drawings and technical manual
  • Strong computer skills with ability to manage full cycle processing of work orders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment
  • Ability to analyze a situation and formulate a methodical approach to effectively correct and when appropriate, escalate the problem in order to prevent/reduce line downtime
  • Flexibility to rotating shift work and occasional overtime
Background and Experience:
  • Industrial Electrician License with strong industrial millwright background is required combined with a minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a similar role in a pharmaceutical, food and beverage or consumer goods packaging environment
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude
Problem Solving:
  • The ability to analyze a situation and formulate a methodical approach to correcting the problem.
  • Work as a team with others to formulate a solution to the problem.
  • Know when to ask for assistance when the situation becomes too complex to resolve individually
Working Conditions:
  • At times a requirement to work in \xe2\x80\x9ctight spaces\xe2\x80\x9d to fix problems.
  • A requirement to be sitting, standing, bending, squatting and walking throughout the day.
  • The position of line mechanic is considered a fixed shift (AM, PM, MN or Continental) to be based on 37.5 hours per week. Weekend work may be required.
  • Overtime will be required. This may be additional time during the workday and weekend work at last minute notice.
  • GMP garments required to be worn within the manufacturing environment as directed.
