Location: Brampton, Ontario

The Compounding Mechanic provides technical support by maintaining, repairing, setting-up, cleaning, performing machine adjustments and operating all mechanical equipment pertaining to the production of Taro drug products including but not limited to filling, packaging and compounding equipment and is responsible for the mechanical performance of the production equipment

Principal duties and responsibilities

  • Provide proactive/preventative maintenance to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Perform mechanical related activities within the packaging department pertaining to the compounding production of drug product within a Good Manufacturing Practices (cG.M.P.) environment.
  • Mechanical related activities include but not limited to the set-up, operating, troubleshooting, repair, preventative maintenance and cleaning compounding equipment and all supporting auxiliary equipment. Includes all preventative maintenance measures required to support the above activities. This includes but not limited to ensuring all repairs are completed as per the appropriate SOP\'s, such as lock-out procedures, impact assessments and repair order documentation.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of unplanned breakdowns, indentify preventative measures and strive for continuous improvement.
  • Assist with the training of new hires.
  • Provide training and guidance to new hires, operators and technicians ensuring the equipment is operated in a safe manner and all safety procedures are followed.
  • Participate in the design review, installation, commissioning and validation of capital projects.
  • Follow spare parts management process, ensure part usage is documented and report low stock shortage.
Other duties and responsibilities
  • Assist with the design specifications for new equipment.
  • Execute validation protocols.
  • Monitor and advise supervisor regarding low stock for consumable inventory parts such as \xe2\x80\x9cO\xe2\x80\x9d rings, seals etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Industrial Millwright License required.
  • Industrial Electrician License is an asset.
  • Previous experience working in a similar role in a pharmaceutical, food and beverage or consumer goods packaging environment is required.
  • Mixing vessel and process equipment maintenance experience is preferred.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Excellent command of the English language, strong written and oral communication skills with ability to interact with all shop floor employees on a daily basis.
  • Working knowledge of pneumatics and electrics.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and background.
  • Ability to read and analyze blue prints, drawings and technical manuals.
  • Strong computer skills with ability to manage full cycle processing of work orders with in-house program.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
  • Flexibility to rotating shift work and occasional overtime.
Problem solving
  • Ability to analyze a situation and formulate a methodical approach to correcting the problem.
  • Ability to work within as a team environment and formulate solutions to problems.
  • Ability to assess a situation effectively and escalate when appropriate in order to reduce line downtime
Working conditions
  • Maybe required to work in \xe2\x80\x9ctight spaces\xe2\x80\x9d to fix problems.
  • A requirement to be sitting, standing, bending, squatting and walking throughout the day.
  • Unless pre-arranged the position of line mechanic is considered to be a \xe2\x80\x9crotational shift\xe2\x80\x9d based on 37.5 hours per week. Weekend work may be required.
  • Overtime will be required. This may be additional time during the workday and weekend work at last minute notice.
  • GMP garments required to be worn within the manufacturing environment as directed.
