Job Description

Peoples Park Tower is an independent living retirement facility who provides rental accommodations for seniors who need minimal to moderate support with their daily lives. Our facility enables residents to live as independently as possible, with access to supportive services.

We are currently seeking a permanent full time Cook to join our team. The Cook will be responsible for the preparation and cooking of breakfast, lunch and supper for our residents. The successful candidate will have attention to detail, focus on quality and professional manner.

KEY ACTIVITIES



Prepares and cooks complete meals or foods such as sauces, soups, salads, vegetables, meat, poultry, fish dishes & desserts. Ensures the maintenance of a clean and safe working environment. Ensures the proper storage, handling and rotation of food, desserts & cleaning supplies. Ensures efficient operation of a Kitchen and Line by coordinating and providing work direction to cook assistance, Dishwasher & Bus Person. Organizes workstations for each shift while maintaining a high level of productivity and sanitation at all times. Address residents concerns in a positive and helpful manner and take prompt, corrective action where necessary. Works closely with Dining Room Supervisor and serving staff to ensure food presentation consistence and delivery times for service. Prepares dessert carts & room service in a timely fashion, when deemed necessary. Assists in the handling, storage and security of all kitchen and catering equipment used in a cooking function. Ensures the cleanliness of fridges, freezers, kitchen floors and other kitchen areas. Required to receive and store delivered goods. Ensure all stocks are maintained at an accurate level and notify of shortages. Make sure all food is stored in appropriate safe holding area i.e. fridge.

Skills



Knowledge of proper handling and storage procedures for food. Dexterity and coordination are required for the operation of cooking appliances/equipment. A high degree of speed and precision is required to ensure the proper and timely production of food. Identifies issues/problems affecting the Dining Room and develops options and presents recommendations considering management, budget and time restraints. Sound knowledge of receipt reading. All communication with management, colleagues and customers must be conducted in a positive and professional manner. Reading and listening skills are required to understand information from colleagues/management on work related topics.

Qualifications



Ability to work successfully while standing for long periods of time. Ability to safely lift heavy objects in the day to day operations of the kitchen. Ability to work in a changing and fast paced environment. Flexibility with scheduling. Must be able to provide a RCMP Criminal Background Check.
