About Our Opportunity

As a Licensing Officer in Licensing Services at the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD), you will be part of a dynamic team who\'s primary responsibility is to ensure the health, safety, and well being of children while receiving away from home care. You will monitor and support licensed child- care and family home child-care programs to ensure they are compliant with the Early Learning and Child Care Act and Regulations. You will monitor all programs from a strength-based monitoring approach and ensure you culturally respond to the communities we serve. You will also be responsible for fostering ongoing positive, collaborative relationships with all early learning and child-care programs.

Reporting to the Licensing Team Lead, you will be called upon to provide timely advice and recommendations contributing to a coordinated and integrated delivery work model. You will work collaboratively with key partners, stakeholders, and colleagues from EECD to ensure a cohesive approach.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Processing applications, ensuring licensing requirements are met and issuing licenses.
  • Performing regularly scheduled on-site inspections at licensed child-care facilities, family home agencies and family home child-care programs.
  • Carrying out compliance enforcement activities for facilities that are found to be in violation of any applicable Act or Regulation.
  • Investigating complaints made against licensed and unlicensed facilities.
  • Ensuring a collaborative and relational approach that supports an integrated work model with subsidy and licensing colleagues.
  • Ensuring files and reports are completed in accordance with licensing services standard timelines.
Qualifications and Experience

You posses and undergraduate degree (Arts, education, social work or early childhood education), plus 5 years experience in an early learning and child-care setting, or a work environment with a focus on policy and regulations. An equivalent combination of related training and experience will also be considered.

You must be able to work both independently and as a member of a team, exhibiting collaborative behaviors. The ability to exercise professional discretion, manage competing interests, and maintain and build effective stakeholder relationships is critical. Experience fostering a supportive learning environment and the ability to work closely with child- care sector. Experience interpreting, explaining, and applying applicable legislation, policies, and standards. You\'re able to apply the concepts of equity, diversity, and inclusion to all areas of your work when dealing with internal and external stakeholders.

Demonstrated proficiency in various computer programs, (i.e. Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook) as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills, is required. This position requires access to a reliable motor vehicle and a valid driver\'s license. Offer of employment is contingent on an appropriate background such as criminal records check and child abuse register.

  • Knowledge of the Early Learning Curriculum Framework, Quality Matters, and the child-care subsidy program
  • Bilingualism (French, Arabic, Mandarin)

Additional Information

These is for a TERM employment opportunity, with an anticipated end date of September 22, 2025. The appointment status (\'term\', \'temporary\' or \'casual\') is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

The location of this position is within our Eastern Region but is flexible depending on the successful candidate, as it can based out of one of our offices within the region (i.e., Sydney or Port Hawkesbury)

Pay Grade: PR 13

Salary Range: $2,543.38 - $3,091.70 Bi-Weekly
